Sex & Nudity

  • You can catch a Brute off guard peeing but in theatre mode you see there's no urine animation or genitalia shown.
  • Cortana is the same as always but not as bad as in Halo 4.

Violence & Gore

  • Body parts can fly off the flood when you shoot them sometimes. Alien blood is purple, green and blue. Also like in other Halo games you can run over aliens with trucks or other vehicles. No dismemberment of human or aliens in the game.
  • In the first cutscene where the arbiter is introduced to Master Chief, Master Chief runs at and holds a pistol at The Arbiter's head. He is stopped when another character tells him that The Arbiter is working with the humans.
  • The flood in this game are less scary than the previous 2 especially when compared to CE they're more like mummy's that decay in ash when shot. They spray out green and yellowish blood some of the transformations may disturb younger players but given the over all cartoony and colourful look of the game it shouldn't be too upsetting for players 10 or over.
  • Frenetic Sci-Fi War Violence throughout with Strong Casualties & Intense Situations.
  • During gameplay, a Brute can be seen punching a soldier in the face with full force, breaking his neck. Although it can be missed, it's surprisingly graphic for a Halo game.
  • You shoot aliens in this game. Though the blood is not red, their bodies are usually surrounded by pools of blood.
  • When humans soldiers die, their bodies collapse onto the ground where a small pool of blood surrounds them.
  • You are often switching between weapons, & have grenades at your disposal. Enemies will frantically & brutally shoot at you.
  • You can see little blood circles appear on the ground when you shoot aliens. But, when you shoot a brute there's some blood that sprays out of them (red).
  • Emotional Thematic Material pertains throughout the game during cutscenes, & many beloved characters die in truly harsh ways.

Profanity

  • Like all Halo games before and after the game contains PG language.
  • Very rarely there is mild language. (eg. damn, ass, crap)

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Mild smoking.
  • Practically none.
  • A character smokes a cigar.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Rated PG-13 for violence, disturbing images and terror.
  • Aliens and the flood can frighten players. Especially the flood, they look and act very brutal.
  • Whenever an enemy appears, there are frightening "jump" moments that occur.
  • There is an intense adrenaline rush once you get to the final portion of the final level, hurrying your way to victory.
  • Many beloved characters die. Shocking & Heartbreaking.
  • The ending is quite distressing, & emotionally resonant.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Soldiers have blood stains on their shirts and bleed when shot. On the last mission one of your teammates is shot with a gun that shots spikes, it's not bleeding but is quite violent. When fighting flood the violence gets even more extreme because of their gross appearance and gruesome deaths.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • At the end of the game Sargent Johnson dies, this can be emotional as he is a huge fan favorite.
  • The entire ending is distressing, & completely heartbreaking (especially with the moving composed score), although, you find out that both Master Chief & Cortana make it out alive, though they're seen inside the wreckage of the ship which's now floating adrift in the emptiness of space, with no other life forms around. Chief lingers around the broken hull then heads into another part of the ship where he places Cortana onto a panel & puts himself inside a cryo-chamber. Cortana tells Chief that it could take years for anyone to find them, which Chief simply replies "Wake me when you NEED me" as the cryo door closes, encapsulating Chief inside as Cortana continues to watch over him.
