The sci-fi movies on this list are not all great works of art. They're not all "secretly great," not all misunderstood masterpieces, and they're certainly not all even "good." Some are! Some are merely fun. Some are bad but instructively so, movies whose bad-ness is thought-provoking. Some are even so bad, they circle back around to being incredibly entertaining.
Is "bad-ness" a lack of competence, or one of taste? As C.S. Lewis once wrote, labeling something negatively is an easy way out. "The distinction [between highbrow and lowbrow] is certainly used to allow us the satisfaction of despising certain authors and readers without imposing on us the labour of showing that they are bad," he wrote. He was talking about books, but his point still stands.
I steadfastly believe that it's worthwhile to watch "bad" movies. I believe we can learn a lot from them about our taste, about what works and what doesn't,...

The Ouija: Origin of Evil episode of The Black Sheep was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The Ouija board, and that’s weejee board not weeja board with all due respect to Joe Bob Briggs, has been a constant source of fascination since it’s inception in 1890. Ghostly movements and other supernatural appearances went back further than that and there were crude inceptions before 1890 but that’s when the board as we know it came about. It was commercialized sometime later and of course; it’s showed up as a device in horror movies ever since. The Witchboard series that started in 1986 is probably the most popular series that features the spirit communicator but another, more straightforward series called Ouija is also out there. Some feelings are going to be hurt on the new season of “Never Have I Ever”.
With the final season of the Netflix show premiering next week, Et Canada’s Keshia Chanté sat down with stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Jaren Lewison and Darren Barnet to talk about what’s in store.

Of course, at the top of fans’ minds is who Ramakrishnan’s Devi will end up with in her love triangle between Ben, played by Lewison, and Paxton, played by Barnet.
Asked if fans will be satisfied by the conclusion to the love triangle, Lewison joked, “I mean, depends who you like!”
“To each their own,” Ramakrishnan added.
“I don’t know if there’s a way to satisfy,” Barnet admitted.
“No, like, there’s no way,” Ramakrishnan jumped in. “There’s no way to satisfy everyone.

As has been previously written about in the pages of /Film, filmmaker Christopher Nolan has endeavored to make his new film "Oppenheimer" -- a biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer, one of the men behind the invention of the atomic bomb -- with a minimum of computer-generated images. Nolan has always been very vocal about his fondness for analog filmmaking, preferring to shoot on physical film and rely as much as he can on practical effects. Nolan has used some CGI throughout his career, but will never be one of those directors who finds themselves filming inside greenscreen environs.
This sense of artistic purity, perhaps alarmingly, led Nolan to recreate nuclear explosions in real life for "Oppenheimer." The director, quite naturally, wasn't about to start exploding actual atomic bombs, but he did want to get real-life explosions on camera. This involved a lot of munitions experimentation, needing to find other, non-nuclear...

The jokes will extend well past April 1st on HBO and HBO Max.
“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.
“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.
On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Bill Hader returns for one final season of Barry and the popular sketch comedy A Black Lady Sketch Show kicks off its fourth season on HBO Max in April 2023. Additional highlights of the streaming service’s April lineup include the debut of Love & Death, a limited series starring Elizabeth Olsen and Patrick Fugit; season two of Somebody Somewhere with Bridget Everett; and the return of 100 Foot Wave for a second season.
In addition, the Titans mid-season premiere arrives on April 13. HBO Max offers this description of the fourth and final season’s remaining episodes: “The Titans – with the exception of Gar – are returned to the Temple of Trigon and rush to find Sebastian and Mother Mayhem before Sebastian summons Trigon. Along the way, they come across a prophecy that may require Kory to make a huge sacrifice to save the world.

In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Henry Winkler stars as Cousineau, Barry’s acting teacher and the man forced to confront the reality of his former student.

Linkin Park have shared another unreleased track, “Fighting Myself,” form the upcoming 20th anniversary reissue of their second album, Meteora, out April 7.
“Fighting Myself” is vintage Linkin Park, with Mike Shinoda spitting angst-ridden bars over simmering production, before late singer Chester Bennington bursts in with a monster chorus, paired with arena-sized guitars. “Falling from grace I watch it all come apart,” Bennington sings, “Knowing I could’ve changed it all from the start/Fighting myself, I always lose.”
“Fighting Myself’ — which arrives with an animated music video directed by Jacky Lu and made with Kaiber.

Seth Meyers actually felt some sympathy for “Fox and Friends” host Brian Kilmeade on Wednesday night, after watching a segment in which Kilmeade ended up running frantically around a Florida diner, looking for anyone to say they weren’t supporting twice-impeached former president Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
The segment came from Tuesday morning’s show, when Kilmeade was sent to a restaurant called Metro Diner in Ponte Vedra Beach. In the clip, Kilmeade first asks the crowd “who’s pumped up” for the 2024 election. When they all enthusiastically agree, Kilmeade begins rapid fire asking everyone there “Who’s your man” or “who’s your woman.”
By Meyers’ guess, Kilmeade and Fox News were hoping to get a lot of Ron DeSantis as an answer, because “they’re hyping Ron DeSantis” in an effort to “put the genie back in the bottle.”

That doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to see. If you live in an area with some Indie theaters (basically New York or Los Angeles) you may be able to see the limited releases of Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale starring a soon to be Oscar Nominated (if the buzz is true) Brendan Fraser. Or perhaps the Sam Mendes film Empire of Light is more your speed, if you can find a theater that is playing it. When it was announced that "The Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth would be replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia on "The Witcher," fan reactions ranged from perplexity to downright rage. Cavill has served as the leading monster slayer on the hit Netflix series' first two seasons and upcoming third, but due to what is presumably scheduling conflicts regarding Cavill's return to the DC Extended Universe as Superman, Hemsworth will be stepping into the role for season 4. In Cavill's statement regarding the replacement, he called Hemsworth "fantastic," and indicated he found him to be a worthy successor as the White Wolf.
"As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men," he said. "Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving...

When "Black Adam" finally hits theaters this week, it won't just introduce audiences to the antihero Teth-Adam (Dwayne Johnson), but to a whole cadre of heroes who could end up playing a major part in the future of the Dceu. The team is called the Justice Society of America, and trailers for the movie have already given us a great first look at their impressive, assorted powers.
Among them is Hawkman, the leader of the Jsa who can be spotted body-slamming Black Adam into a building in clips from the movie. Hawkman, whose real name is Carter Hall, sports a pair of gorgeous and intimidating gold and red wings and a golden helmet with its own wing-like pattern. The third week of September finally brings a glimmer of hope to the box office in the form of Viola Davis and her film The Woman King. Full disclosure, this isn’t my type of movie, I like some warrior movies, but they aren’t the type of films I rush out to see. However, being a fan of Viola Davis, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued by seeing her in the type of role we have never seen her play before. I think you combine that level of curiosity among moviegoers and the film’s quite solid reviews. You have a recipe for the first film to open in the 20 Million range since Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero did nearly a month ago. The studio is playing it slightly more modest, saying The Woman King is only tracking to open around 12 Million.

If you’re looking for new movies and TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime Video in April, you’ve come to the right place. This month doesn’t bring a ton in terms of new Prime Video originals, but there are a few noteworthy titles. “Outer Range,” premiering April 15, is a new series that’s essentially “Yellowstone” but sci-fi. April is here and that means there’s a whole slew of new releases headed to Hulu to meet your streaming needs.
In the realm of original films, Hulu has the queer rom-com “Crush,” starring Rowan Blanchard and Auli’i Cravalho, which debuts April 29. Meanwhile, new library arrivals this month include the Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt sci-fi mind-bender “Looper,” both “Shrek” and “Shrek 2,” and all four films in “The Twilight Saga.”
April is also a big month for new TV shows on Hulu. Andrew Garfield’s hot streak continues with the FX drama “Under the Banner of Heaven,” which debuts exclusively on Hulu April 28. For reality TV fans, “The Kardashians” premieres on April 14. Hulu also has two franchise spinoff kids shows returning with Season 7 of “Madagascar: A Little Wild” on April 4 and Season 2 of “The Croods: Family Tree” on April 5.

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

Good news for all you Brolin-heads! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by one very intriguing TV project starring Thanos himself.
The Josh Brolin-starring Outer Range premieres April 15 and looks like it could be a wild ride. The synopsis is terse and reads “A rancher fighting for his land and family stumbles upon an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, forcing a confrontation with the Unknown in ways both intimate and cosmic in the untamable American West.” That, combined with an enigmatic first trailer, has our interest piqued.

MollywoodBarring exceptions like Manju Warrier and Nayanthara, women actors in Malayalam cinema hardly see any fan-led celebrations like the kind enjoyed by their male counterparts.CrisAmong all the folks that Malayalam movie makers like to thank at the beginning of a film are groups after groups of fan associations. Promptly, applause – ranging from loud to feeble depending on the strength of each group – breaks out in the theatre. If you screw your eyes and read through the names of these associations, chances are that you will be quite impressed. For you’ll very likely find a fan club for the newest male actor on the block, whom you hardly recall. Naturally, if you’re in the habit of introspecting, you’ll wonder where all the groups for women actors are. Surely, if the little known chap has one, the much senior women actors would have a few, you think. To that,...

The summer movie season may be winding down but Amazon Prime still has a hit or two up its sleeve in August 2021.
Amazon’s list new arrivals this month is highlighted by Evangelion:3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time. That may be a mouthful of a name but it’s a big deal in the anime world. The streamer nagged exclusive rights to the final film in the Neon Genesis Evangelion film franchise known as “Rebuild of Evangelion”. With the future of the franchise up in the air, this could be the last chance in awhile for anime fans worldwide to catch some mecha action.

Film aficionados will want to keep an eye on Amazon Prime Video in August, as the streaming giant is set to debut two Cannes Film Festival premieres: “Val,” a new documentary about Val Kilmer that uses archival footage shot by the actor himself, and “Annette,” Leos Carax award-winning musical (it won best director at Cannes) starring Adam Driver and Maron Cotillard and featuring music by Ron and Russell Mael of Sparks.
But beyond the Prime Video originals, the Amazon library content added to the service next month is vast and impressive. Among the major movies coming to Prime Video include “Aliens,” “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” “Jaws,” “Moneyball,” and “Predator.” Meanwhile, IMDb TV, the free service that users can access without a corresponding Amazon Prime subscription, will host “Apollo 13,” “La La Land,” and “Ghostbusters” among many other big titles.

Sleigh Bells have returned with a new song, “Locust Laced,” set to appear on their upcoming album, Texis, out September 10th via Mom + Pop.
“Locust Laced” is classic Sleigh Bells with cranked-to-11 guitar riffs and blown-out electronic percussion raging beneath Alexis Krauss’ sugar-rush vocals as she belts, “I feel like dynamite/I feel like dying tonight!”
The track also arrives with a music video, which Sleigh Bells guitarist Derek Miller co-directed with Nina Ljeti. It finds the band performing on an old-timey country program, but the performance goes steadily haywire...

Brian Morewitz is out as senior VP of drama at ABC, the network confirms to Variety. Morewitz had been with ABC for almost 17 years, and had been in his most recent position since March 2016, when he was promoted by then-entertainment president Channing Dungey.
There’s no word yet on how Morewitz will be replaced, or who will assume his drama duties. Craig Erwich, who serves as ABC Entertainment president in addition to his role as head of programming at Hulu, announced the departure, along with ABC development and content stategy Simran S. Sethi, in a memo to staffers:

It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.
Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! It’s just that, outside of the library titles, there isn’t much to go off of.
Hulu’s only major original release this month is the FX on Hulu production American Horror Stories on July 15. As its name implies, the show is a spinoff of American Horror Story and will feature self-contained horror episodes rather than a season-long arc. If you’ll allow this geriatric millennial to deploy one truly ancient meme: “Yo dawg,...

Though Marvel has decided to consolidate all of its cinematic universe offerings onto Disney+, some outliers still live on for other streaming services. In May 2021, Hulu is set to premiere the latest non-canon Marvel series.
The animated comedy Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is set to premiere on May 21 and stars Patton Oswalt as the titular Marvel villain. Oswalt’s Modok is every bit the devious floating head that he’s depicted as in the comics. He’s also your every day family man and the show will take on the format of a workplace sitcom. Sounds kinda fun! It’s no wonder that M.O.D.O.K. is the last Hulu Marvel show standing.
In non-Marvel offerings this month, Shrill will debut its third and final season on May 7. This comedy based on Lindy West’s memoir and starring SNL‘s Aidy Bryant has been a consistently bright presence on the streaming scene since...

Wait a minute. Are we somehow half way through the year already? That feels impossible but here comes month number five all the same. With its list of new releases for May 2021, Amazon Prime is highlighting some of its more intriguing original series in awhile.
The first original of note is The Underground Railroad. This series from Barry Jenkins tells the story of one woman’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South and arrives on May 14. After that comes Solos. This intriguing anthology has one hell of a cast including Anthony Mackie, Dan Stevens, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Constance Wu, and more. The project will premiere on May 21 and each of its seven episodes promises to be quite different.

Countless directors have contended with the curse of the sophomore slump, but the saga of “Southland Tales” exists in a category of its own. Five years after his cult hit “Donnie Darko” established the filmmaker’s unique, surrealistic sci-fi voice, the filmmaker’s large-scale follow-up broke all the rules. Maligned at Cannes in 2006 when it premiered in an unfinished version, “Southland Tales” went back to the editing room, lost 20 minutes, and stumbled into theaters later in the year. Now, a new Blu-ray release from Arrow Video has brought the 160-minute Cannes cut to the public for the first time, and with it, an opportunity to fully assess one of the strangest American movies of this young century.
An audacious near-future pop fever dream under the guise of blockbuster aesthetics, “Southland Tales” starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a movie star who keeps forgetting his past, Sarah Michelle Gellar as a...

Abigail read a mysterious letter that Jack wrote Kate, Steve and Kayla were at odds over Tripp, John and Marlena celebrated yet another anniversary, and J.J. and Theo back came home to Salem.
Our T.V. Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Tony from MyHourglass, a Days of Our Lives fan forum, to debate what's in the letter, Abigail's drinking, Kayla's perspective, the anniversary flashbacks, and more!
What's your guess as to the contents of Jack's letter to Kate?
Jack: Knowing Days of Our Lives, it's likely that he and Kate were having a one-night stand that he regretted afterward. That's typical of this show and also gives J.J. the opportunity to think he and Jack are two peas in a pod because of the whole stupid Eve affair.
I don't like it, though, and hope I'm wrong. I just don't see Jack having sex...

They're back!
Both JJ and Theo return home to surprise their parents on Days of Our Lives during the week of 11-02-20.
They're returning for Abigail's party, but since Gwen is causing a ton of trouble, will they stay to support their families?
I'm hoping these two stick around a while.
It's no secret that JJ is one of my favorite characters, and I've missed him since his abrupt disappearance from our screens in February 2020.
So I'm thrilled he's back and hope it's for more than a few days!
And since Days of Our Lives just went to all the trouble of recasting Theo, it would be silly if he came just for the party and headed back to South Africa shortly afterward.
According to the spoiler video, Abigail drops a bombshell at the party: a letter from Jack to Kate implying he did something wrong while Jennifer was in her coma.

Aside from Ramy Youssef, this category is loaded with veteran names. Anderson, Cheadle, Danson, Douglas and Levy are a formidable quintet making up the field for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, who have all been in this category before, but only one of them has previously prevailed—and not for the show in which he currently stars. The winner here for the past two years was Bill Hader, but his show took this season off, leaving a ripe opportunity for change. Let’s look at the contenders in both Lead and Supporting Actor Comedy categories and see who gets the Pete’s Winner Pick stamp.

“The Integrity Of Our Voting Results Is Paramount.”
That was the red-band headline late Monday night on MSNBC as the Iowa Caucus returns became a complete mess with dysfunction everywhere and confusion rampant. However, that headline could also be applied to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which quickly moved to quell a negative tweetstorm reaction to a glitch that occurred when the Academy launched a new feature earlier in the day called “The Oscars Prediction Experience.” It could have said “The Integrity Of Our Voting Results Is Paramount — and Sony and Netflix and Warner Bros and Universal….” Well, you get the idea.

Exclusive: The Crow, I, Robot and Gods Of Egypt director Alex Proyas has signed with Gersh.
Sydney-based Proyas, also well known for movies Dark City, Garage Days and Knowing, started out as a music video director working with artists including Crowded House, Fleetwood Mac, Sting, James Reyne and Inxs.
The Australian filmmaker is currently working on two projects: The New Country, a “sci-fi rock opera” with producer Brad Fischer; and The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, a sci-fi film noir with producer Mike Medavoy.
The New Country is a time travel story set in a desert in “a very rare 1982”. The Medavoy project is a long-gestating movie once set up with Red Granite.
