awfully lame
dusan01121 April 2004
I am a person who loves movies .. all movies ... and for me it takes a lot to say for a movie that its bad ... but Matchups is achieves new meanings of the word "lame".

The idea of the movie is not bad in fact, but extremely bad acting and just simply horrible realization overcomes any possible good. Seriously, whats up with the main actor, addressing the players in the team he coaches as "Son"... all the time ... and from the story you can realize he's just 2-3 years older than them ...... and he does it again and again. Also, the way he advices the team during the game ... there's surely not a single person who just watches basketball that would not be ashamed to tell a bball player "i know, the winning strategy is to run and shoot" ... even worse, players think these kinds of advices are magic ... and suddenly all falls in place. There is so much more of this kinds of scenes ... its really too much...

I was desperate to watch a movie that day ... I didn't have anything else to watch ... but I preferred to stop in the middle and go stare at the wall.

My advice: If you are not interested to see how a high school directing/acting project looks like ... stay away from Matchups!

Cool Movie
kimc-1014 June 2005
I liked Matchups...good story and especially enjoyed Josh Haze. Looked up who he was before I wrote this...although it was a small part...this is a guy to watch. Everyone has to start somewhere. Good movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon. Sometimes "slick" isn't always better. Sometimes slick is just slick with no real story. IAN "WONDER BOY" WILLIAMS had big dreams for his future and I walked away from the movie with a renewed sense of possibility.Just as in real life we can be left with shattered dreams but we still can find purpose. Movie was slow is some parts but then again "Big Screen" movies can get that way too. It at first seemed like a stretch to even think of a blind coach but by the end of the movie I was convinced. It was a convincingly touching story of hope, dreams and possibilities.

A few cuties and good lead actor
annajay8119 February 2007
A film without cursing and sex. Wow. You can tell it wasn't a big budget movie but the story was pretty good. Family like. My little niece could see it. It got kind of slow in the middle but the ending was good. The only actor I knew was the lady from the Jamie Foxx Show, but the other people were good....well most of them. Where did the lead actor Donohue come from? He was pretty convincing as a blind guy...and he's a cutie too. In some scenes I was like "wow, he is a good actor." I want to see him in something else. If you want a lot of action this isn't the movie. If you want to see some cuties in a family story you may like it.
