Sex & Nudity

  • Sam Rockwell's character hits himself and moans "harder! Harder! I love it!" as a gag on sadism. Evading a giant spaceship, he exclaims "I love it rough. Hit me! Hit me!"
  • A reference to a man wearing a woman's underwear is made. At one time, the woman's right buttock got a quick slap and squeeze by a man.
  • Arthur speaks to Trillian while she is showering. She is in a stall and visible from the armpit and up.
  • The main characters kiss.

Violence & Gore

  • A robot is shot in the head and falls in a dramatic fashion.
  • It is implied that a robot's arm is forcibly removed.

  • 'Bloody' is said twice as a curse word.
  • 'Idiot' is said three times and 'stupid' is said five times.
  • Several instances of people using the word 'Belgium', which in the Hitch-hiker's Guide universe is considered the most offensive word ever.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The first ten minutes includes adults actively drinking beer and wine. In one scene a man drinks an entire pint at once and does it again later.
  • Two men go to a bar on Earth; one orders six pints of beer, and the other comments that it's a bit much for before lunchtime.
  • People drink alcohol at a house party.
  • One scene where two men drink fictional cocktails which are said to have the effect of "having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick".

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The aliens and overall atmosphere of the movie can (sometimes) be slightly bizarre
  • While the main characters are placed in perilous conditions many times throughout the film, the tone is light and comedic.
  • An sinister alien that has many tiny legs attached to a human torso may be frightening.
  • A man has a limb cut off, but it is played for laughs and depicted in a silhouette.
