Sex & Nudity

  • Lucy makes out with a boy, he puts his hand on her clothed breast and she pushes him away.
  • Mai shows cleavage a couple of times.
  • Mai and Gabriel kiss deeply.

Violence & Gore

  • Unrated cut adds a few moments of violence.
  • There is one fight scene in which the main character is forced to fight someone who knows kung fu, and he is beaten up. He is thrown out of a window, but comes back, crashing a car through a wall and hitting his opponent. The opponent is ultimately killed when a car then explodes on them at the bottom of an elevator shaft.
  • A man is shot, and the shooter grabs him and holds him at gunpoint and they run away.
  • A security guard punches McClane in the face, but McClane punches and head butts him, knocking him out.
  • A man shoots at McClane and he returns fire, but the man swings around several fans and pipes in the room and kicks him. McClane breaks a pipe which sprays steam at the man, causing him to fall into one of the grinders in the room and die, though no blood is seen.
  • While it's intense and practically nonstop, the violence here is mostly bloodless.
  • There's a destructive sequence in which a jet shoots at a truck on a highway while hovering, and a bridge is destroyed, but a man manages to blow up the jet and escape as it it's destroyed.
  • There's a lengthy and intense shootout in an apartment building, and many bullets are traded and much of the building is shot up. McClane shoots a fire extinguisher at a man's feet.
  • McClane shoots several men while moving through a building to save his daughter.
  • There's a long and destructive car chase in which several vehicles crash and explode, and one car crashes up through a toll booth and smashes into a helicopter, causing a large explosion.

Profanity

  • Around to 27 uses of "shit", 7 uses of "hell", 12 uses of "ass", 3 uses of "bitch", 1 use of "son of a bitch", 2 uses of "bastard", 3 uses of "damn", 6 uses of "goddamn". This is just the theatrical PG13 version. The unrated has over 20+. F-words.
  • 'Shit' is said a lot.
  • Unrated cut adds 28 'f' words in (including 8 used with "mother")

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Characters are constantly in danger.
  • Hostages are taken and threatened.
  • Many people are killed.
  • Intense firefights.
  • Contains very high levels of violence for a PG-13 film. Dozens of primary and secondary characters are killed by gunfire, beatings, vehicle accidents and other means. Often, we see brutal beatings and injuries on screen.
  • Every action sequence is filmed in a very intense way.

Violence & Gore

  • McClane shoots himself through the shoulder to kill the villain. While particularly bloodless, the bullet travels through his shoulder and hits the villain in the chest, who is launched upward and falls on top of a car. He dies from this; McClane lives.

Profanity

  • In the theatrical cut, McClane's signature catchphrase has the "f" word muffled out by gunfire. However, it is heard in its entirety in the unrated cut.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There's a video image of the exploding U. S. capitol (revealed to be fake).
