Michael Dorn has had himself one fine career in Hollywood, the kind that many actors coming up now will probably never have the chance to experience. Dorn is largely known as one character, Worf from the "Star Trek" franchise, which technically includes "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" (where Dorn plays the grandfather of the Worf most people are familiar with) but was defined by his work on "The Next Generation," culminating in his return in "Picard" season 3. While Dorn has acted in a ton of other movies and TV shows over the years, this will always be his calling card. Be that as it may, Dorn does have another major franchise under his belt, although his contributions to it are quite a bit smaller.
Though one would be forgiven for missing it, Dorn actually has a small, uncredited role in the 1976 classic "Rocky.

The early 2000s were a bad time for Sylvester Stallone professionally. In the mid-nineties, after a short-lived resurgence of three hit movies, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man and The Specialist, Stallone’s career as a bankable action star began to sputter, with Judge Dredd, Assassins and Daylight all losing money. Copland, an indie drama directed by James Mangold, made money and earned Stallone his best reviews since the original Rocky, but his follow-up movies were disastrous. His attempt at a slasher/ horror movie, D-Tox, sat on the shelf for years, finally being released under the lame title Eye See You. His 2000 remake of Get Carter was another disaster, with critics eviscerating him for remaking the Michael Caine classic, with even a cameo from Caine himself not easing their fury. In 2001, he teamed with Cliffhanger’s Renny Harlin on a go-for-broke would-be blockbuster called Driven.

Welcome To Plathville: Fans Call Out Moriah Plath For Her Own Problems
When it comes to the Plath family, Welcome To Plathville fans have plenty to pick apart. Usually, if and when one family member goes after another one, it’s some manner of the pot calling the kettle black. Each Plath family member seems to have their share of issues, and Moriah Plath is no exception.
Moriah has gone out of her way to appear edgy and rebellious. She even went as far as tattooing the word “Rebel” on her forearm. However, the way some Welcome To Plathville fans see it, she tries too hard to come across as dark, brooding, and edgy.

James Gunn will soon be launching his version of the DC Universe with David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, and with this will come along multiple other characters that were previously either left in the dark or left unexplored. One of these widely speculated characters includes Lobo as well, the villain widely rumored to be embodied by Jason Momoa.
Corenswet in and as Superman. | @jamesgunn/Ig.
While Momoa has been vocal about his heartiest desire to play this unhinged interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, nothing has been confirmed about even the character’s debut in this respective rebooted super-verse. But this villain is actually so iconic with some truly scary powers that seeing him face Corenswet’s Man of Steel is all we want to see after this.
Lobo is Scarier Than Fans’ Wildest Imaginations
Of all the comic book characters in comics, perhaps none holds as scary powers as Lobo.

Dakota Johnson rose to prominence in the Fifty Shades trilogy and captured audiences’ interest as an actress. She has gone on to star in small-budget indie darlings such as Our Friend, The Peanut Butter Falcon, Cha Cha Real Smooth, and The Lost Daughter. The actress recently transitioned into the superhero genre with Madame Web.

Unfortunately, the film turned out to be mediocre and a big box office bomb. Marvel fans deemed it one of the worst entries in the franchise, and they have mocked several unintentionally funny moments in the film. Big Ed from 90 Day Fiancé recently threw shade at his ex, Liz Woods, on Instagram. The two had a rough separation and are known for being an on-and-off-again couple. It’s hard to imagine today but there was a time when Wes Craven was having trouble securing the funding to make A Nightmare on Elm Street, which has of course gone on to become one of the most iconic and beloved horror movies ever made. Enter Duncan Eagleson, an artist Craven and New Line approached to create a pitch poster for the film… before it was made.
Duncan Eagleson was approached in 1983 to make the pitch poster based only on Craven’s script, and various versions of that original artwork have appeared over the years; particularly on international posters for A Nightmare on Elm Street. But that original piece that Eagleson whipped up in the early ’80s has now surfaced, and it’s currently up for auction!
Hake’s Auctions explains the piece, “To help secure financing, [Craven and New Line] decided to create a striking visual aid in the form of a pre-release movie poster.

Inga Swenson, the two-time Tony-nominated singer and actress who as the dictatorial German cook Gretchen Kraus sparred with Robert Guillaume‘s character on the 1980s ABC sitcom Benson, has died. She was 90.
Swenson died Sunday night of natural causes in hospice care in Los Angeles, her son, Mark Harris, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Swenson also sparkled in two critically acclaimed 1962 films released seven weeks apart — as the mother of Helen Keller (Patty Duke) in Arthur Penn’s The Miracle Worker (1962) and as the wife of a U.S. senator with a dark secret (Don Murray) in Otto Preminger’s political thriller Advise & Consent (1962).
On the strength of those performances, the Nebraska native — no, she was not born in Germany — was cast in 1963 as the spinster Lizzy in 110 in the Shade, based on N. Richard Nash’s play The Rainmaker. She received a Tony nomination for best actress in a musical for that performance,...

All was not well with Sylvester Stallone’s career in the summer of 1995. Judge Dredd had come out, and, despite blockbuster business overseas, the film flopped in the all-important North American market. It would kick off a dry spell in Sly’s career, with many of his follow-up movies also doing poorly, to the point that in the early 2000s, he was stuck doing low-rent movies that went direct to video, such as Shade and Avenging Angelo. Of course, a major comeback for the Italian Stallion was just around the corner. Still, in this episode of Stallone Revisited, we look back at his follow-up to Judge Dredd, Assassins, which, on paper, should have been one of Sly’s classics but has gone on to become something of an obscure, underrated outing on his CV.

It seems that just about everybody is playing Wordle these days. The software engineer Josh Wardle created the puzzle game sometime last year for him and his partner to enjoy, but after sharing it with family members, he decided to make Wordle public in October. Since then, the game has attracted millions of players around the world, prompting the "New York Times" to acquire the game for a hefty price in January. Over the past few weeks, it's become so popular that fans have created their own versions of the game based on their favorite artists, TV shows, or films. For example, if you're a member of the BTS Army, you can play BTS Wordle, which includes words inspired by the K-pop group. Good news, Swifties: There's also a Taylor Swift version of Wordle called Taylordle.
Just like the original version, Taylordle requires players to correctly guess a five-letter word within six tries.

What We Do in the Shadows season 3 episode 1, “The Prisoner,” moves quickly through the blood and raw meat left over from the slaughter of the season 2 finale, “Nouveau Théâtre des Vampires.” The episode is named for the faithful familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), who took out about 70 percent of the most powerful vampires in the Tri-State area. When the episode opens, he is being held in a cage while Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), Nadja of Antipaxos, (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo Cravensworth (Matt Berry), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) decide his fate.
It’s not an easy decision, apparently. Much of the opening finds the vampires arguing over whose responsibility the errant servant is. Nandor is happy to share ownership of the young man who slew the upper echelon of blood-thirstiest suckers in the northeast.

This week on DC’s Stargirl, Pat and Barbara entertained unexpected houseguests, The Shade shed light on things, and Cindy got to recruiting her sinister crew.
Parent Trapped | Following a cold open in which we got a sense of Artemis’ visits with her imprisoned parents, we and Mike discovered that Crusher and Paula had broken out of the hoosegow — not to make any mayhem, but to be on hand for their daughter’s football tryout in front of a Big 10 scout. To that end, they leaned on Pat and Barbara to let them lay low at the Whitmore-Dugan house, or...

We're finally starting to get some answers.
Sure, there's still a lot we don't know, but Stargirl Season 2 Episode 3 helped answer of few of the season's more pressing questions: What is The Shade doing in Blue Valley? Who will yield Thunderbolt? Will Courtney pass summer school?
Ok, maybe the last question is a bit of a stretch, but this season is shaping up to be a good one.
First off, let's take a moment to congratulate the series on finally striking the right balance of honoring the source material while still providing new and engaging storylines.
This may be a point of contention among some fans, but I fall into the category of series taking their cues from the original mythos and then making it their own.
Pat: Still zipping around I see.
Thunderbolt: I can't believe you built this. If Starman had seen it, I'm sure you would have promoted you from sidekick to,...

Courtney Whitmore was more than a little green with envy in this week’s episode of DC’s Stargirl. Elsewhere, the ruthless and power-hungry Eclipso claimed his first victim!
The second episode of Season 2 opened with a a brief flashback to just six days ago, where Jennie, the young woman that Court just faced off against in the kitchen, effectively “aged out” of the Milwaukee group home where she had been living. The Shiv is going to hit the fan in Season 2 of DC’s Stargirl, when the ancient evil unleashed by the titular hero’s arch nemesis takes (very grisly) form — and TVLine has your exclusive first look.

First, about that “others” in the post title: Marguerite Sauvage drew one of the six issues collected here, Ande Parks inked the pages set on Meta, Kelly Fitzpatrick colored all of it, and several other artists contributed to the back-up stories. Including all of them would make it look like a law firm.
But Cecil Castellucci wrote all of it and Marley Zarcone drew all but the first issue in Shade the Changing Girl, Vol. 2: Little Runaway , so it’s reasonably fair to attribute it to the two of them. And it is, as you might guess, the immediate sequel to Vol. 1: Earth Girl Made Easy , by the same team, and concludes the initial arc of this comic.
I thought this Shade was going to be focused on the alien-in-high-school thing, but I was wrong: the first issue here blows that up to send Loma Shade off on her own journey across America,...

Today at New York Comic Con, the stars of DC’s Stargirl joined creator/executive producer Geoff Johns to recap Season 1 and tease what’s to come in Season 2.
During the virtual panel with actors Brec Bassinger, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington, Cameron Gellman and Meg DeLacy, Johns said that we can expect “a lot of bad guys, and a lot of bad things happening” in the series’ second run. “Everyone’s got a great journey ahead in Stargirl Season 2,” he added. “We broke the season a long time ago, but [we’ve now] broken the season even deeper.”
One of the main antagonists set to clash with Stargirl’s Justice Society of America in Season 2 is Eclipso, a life essence trapped inside a blue diamond. Once owned by the Injustice Society of America, that diamond was stolen in Season 1 by DeLacy’s Cindy, which will result in problems for the Jsa going forward.

‘The Way I See It’ Review: A Love Letter to Obama Through White House Photographer Pete Souza’s Lens
Every four years, a few months before the presidential election, a batch of strategically timed movies materialize in hopes of engaging voters and influencing the outcome. Some are merely opportunistic, others downright propagandistic, but few have a shelf life past that first Tuesday in November. A warm, softball profile of Pete Souza, who had the unusual honor of serving as official White House photographer for two presidents of opposite parties, Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama, “The Way I See It” feels like it could carry on being relevant to audiences for decades to come.
Saving its political agenda for the end, the documentary — which is told through a mix of voiceover, video footage and iconic stills from Souza’s copious photo archives — opens with the image maker’s memories of Obama’s last hours in office. He explains how the transition of power and witnessing the inauguration felt from where he stood,...

That was epic.
There really are no other words to describe Stargirl Season 1 Episode 13, as the season finale was visually stunning and executed perfectly.
Along with doing a fantastic job in bringing this chapter to a satisfying ending, the new developments introduced at the end of the episode had me clambering on the edge of my seat with excitement.
Whatever comes next is sure to be entertaining.
To start, let's dissect the biggest "surprise" of all: Starman's alive.
Or well, someone who looks exactly like Starman and claims his name is Sylvester Pemberton is alive and well and walking around North Hollywood looking for Pat Dugan.
When characters magically come back from the dead on television -- especially on fantasy and supernatural shows -- we can't be surprised.
After all, there are two rules when it comes to death on TV.

Daniel Warren Johnson is doing some of the best work of his young career taking Wonder Woman to the end of the age of man.
My first experience with Daniel Warren Johnson's comics work was probably his Image book, Murder Falcon, and my first thought was "Oh wow, he's new Stokoe." He's got a very similar vibe - that immaculate attention to detail, the panels that bubble over with imagination, and there's a wryness that I think is very subtle in both artists that people don't appreciate as much because the other skills are so immediately apparent.
But after thinking about it, and pouring over these exclusive preview pages of Wonder Woman: Dead Earth #2, I think I'm leaning towards Geof Darrow being a better comparison. Dead Earth has a little bit of a Shaolin Cowboy feel to it, and Johnson does some things very well, and...

Exclusive: The Gotham Group, which most recently produced Disney+’s Stargirl based on the bestselling novel, has made its latest book deal. It has optioned Christina Hammonds Reed’s upcoming debut Ya novel The Black Kids, setting Rafiki helmer Wanuri Kahiu to direct and Allison Davis to adapt it.
The novel, to be published September 1 via Simon & Schuster, is a coming-of-age story of a wealthy African-American teenager whose family gets caught in the vortex of the 1992 Los Angeles riots.
Kahiu’s previous film Rafiki was banned in her native Kenya for a time ahead of its world premiere at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, where it made history as the first Kenyan film selected. It explored Lgbtq issues in a country that criminalizes homosexual acts between consenting adults.

Warner Bros. has had a rough few years. Enviously eyeing the McU’s success, they decided there was no reason they couldn’t do the same with their stable of DC heroes. The end result of that experiment was the crushing critical and box office failure of Justice League. Since then, though, they’ve been steadily bouncing back.
Aquaman was a huge success and while Shazam! maybe could have made a bit more money, it was still a great movie. But the recent cherry on top of their cake is Joker. Made on a slim $55 million budget, the film has now pulled in $938 million at the box office, smashed the record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie and is widely expected to receive nods during awards season. And if you’re doing something right, why stop?

Peter Fonda was a counterculture film icon who gave John Lennon a bad trip but a great song.
Actor and director Peter Fonda died of respiratory failure due to lung cancer at his Los Angeles home on Friday, Aug. 16, his manager, Alan Somers, announced via Variety. The Oscar-nominated screenwriter and star of Easy Rider was 79.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family,” the Fonda family said in a statement. “In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts. And, while we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life. In honor of Peter, please raise a glass to freedom.

It often seems like women have almost as hard a time catching a break at country awards shows as they do on country radio, judging from the fact that neither the Cma Awards nor Acm Awards could come up with a single female to nominate for entertainer of the year for the last two years running. That women problem didn’t run over to the Cmt Music Awards, where Carrie Underwood was not only nominated for the top prize Wednesday night but won it, picking up the fan-voted video of the year award for “Cry Pretty.”
That Underwood was not in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to accept the prize was nothing personal. She’d just finished an off-site performance of her new single, “Southside,” a few miles away for an outdoor crowd of glowstick wavers at the Parthenon. Underwood also won favorite female video for “Love Wins,” putting her tally...

The 2019 Cmt Music Awards delivered the usual freewheeling mix of surprising musical collaborations, timely jokes and rowdy behavior. Triumphant pairings included Tanya Tucker and Brandi Carlile; Brett Young and Boyz II Men; and Maren Morris with Sheryl Crow. Luke Combs enjoyed his status as the hottest star of the moment, while Zac Brown sent an unsubtle message to his band’s haters. And mullets, surprisingly and somewhat perplexingly, reigned supreme. Here’s the 10 best, worst and most Wtf moments of Cmt’s annual fan-voted awards show.

Maren Morris made her bones as one of country’s brightest new upstarts three years ago with her major-label debut, Hero. She introduced herself as a Texas songwriter with a sharp eye, a velvet voice and a mean streak, especially when it came to her irreverent attitude toward Nashville pieties. “My Church” was her profane hymn about hitting the highway, rolling down the windows and blasting Hank Williams on the car radio. From “Drunk Girls Don’t Cry” to “80s Mercedes,” Morris sounded fresh, wry, electric, full of hip-hop and R&B,...

Heggra has rarely looked better in the new Female Furies book from DC Comics. Check out an exclusive first look.
I'm on the record as loving Shade the Changing Girl/Woman, writer Cecil Castellucci's last comic with artist Marley Zarcone at DC. It was beautifully weird, earnest and heartfelt and real, which is a ridiculous way to describe a book about an alien insanity vest that reanimates a dead teenager with the brain of an alien bird and learns to make friends. It was a wire to wire terrific comic that I've already gone back and reread.
I should have known that Adriana Melo was going to impress, too. She has been a quality artist since her time on Birds of Prey. And her work on Plastic Man with Gail Simone was really good. But I did not expect to get a good Kirby impression out of her!

Young Justice tries something different with Triptych and largely succeeds.
This Young Justice: Outsiders review contains spoilers.
Young Justice Season 3 Episode 8
"Triptych" is exactly what the title implies: three adjacent stories that tell one bigger tale. It plays a little loose with the passage of time, but it also moves the ball further down the field than any episode yet this season and looks at the overarching story of Young Justice: Outsiders from a different angle, expanding the world in interesting ways.
The three stories are fairly straightforward: Nightwing and his Outsiders get a lead on where to find more information about Brion's sister and the League, so they head for a Detroit airport hangar where Shade, Live Wire, and Mist are waiting for their teammate, Cheshire, to get sewn up after taking a bullet at Star Labs, where they were stealing something Reach-related. I’m here because I’m looking backwards. Why else would any of us be reading the first collection of a nearly thirty-year-old comics series? [1]
I recently read the first collection of the current Shade the Changing Girl series, which reminded me of this Peter Milligan/Chris Bachalo/Mark Pennington version, which began in 1990 and ran through 1996, ending after 70 issues.
It was a fairly typical Vertigo series of the day, one of the many that followed Alan Moore’s template from Swamp Thing: start with a minor DC character, one as close to a joke as possible. Take him seriously, but not in comic-book terms — take him seriously in world-historical terms, bring in whatever other pop-culture or serious-culture material that energizes you and you can bolt onto it somehow. Run that character through horror plots, generally one or two issues long, each one encapsulating something frightening or appalling or norm-breaking.

In 1993, after not being accepted into any major film festival of the time, such as Sundance, filmmaker Todd Phillips personally toured the U.S. and Europe with his first documentary film, Hated: Gg Allin & The Murder Junkies. Following this experience, Phillips partnered up with fellow filmmaker Andrew Gurland to launch several initiatives to help small, challenging and often controversial films connect with audiences.
One of those initiatives was the first ever New York Underground Film and Video Festival, which was held at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City on March 18-20, 1994.
The term “underground film” was first used to describe the experimental film scene in 1961 by filmmaker and film theorist Stan Vanderbeek. Using “underground film” to describe the avant-garde cinema remained popular throughout the ’60s, then lost popularity in the ’70s as terms like “structural film” came into existence. “Underground film” ultimately regained some of its mojo...

Like its predecessors, the third film in the hit Shade series Fifty Shades Freed has debuted number one at the box office with an estimated $38.8 million. The final film in the trilogy was able to hold off fellow newcomers Peter Rabbit and The 15:17 to Paris. Freed earned an estimated $98 million overseas for a weekend debut of $139 million total worldwide.
For comparison, 2015’s Fifty shades opened with $85 million domestically and 2017’s Fifty Shades Darker opened with a $45 million weekend. While Freed earned less than its two predecessors, the franchise has crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Peter Rabbit finished second with a domestic estimate of $25 million. The new Sony animated film is the 80th best all-time February opening weekend, finishing a mere $4,500 behind 2014’s Robocop remake which sits uncomfortably at 79. Rabbit opened in 3,768 theaters, which is the fifth largest per-screen-February-opening of all time.
Third place finisher The 15:17 to Paris opened with an estimated $12.6 million.

This can’t be what Arnold Schwarzenegger imagined 2017 to look like: Sure, there’s a reality star in the White House, the Chicago Cubs are World Series champions, and his arch-rival (/best celebrity friend), Sylvester Stallone, is a recent Academy Award nominee. Yet for the ex-governor of California, far more confounding is how he became an ex-celebrity.
Schwarzenegger spent his acting life amassing a domestic box office of more than $1.8 billion. That haul came from comedies, like “Twins” ($111 million); science fiction, like “Total Recall” ($119 million) and “Terminator 2” ($204 million); or — his bread and butter — action flicks a la “True Lies” ($146 million) and “Eraser” ($101 million). But one unfortunate connection for all of Schwarzenegger’s films grossing $100 million-plus: They were all made before the year 2000.
