Simone first came to prominence with the website, Women in Refrigerators, in which she protested the sexist comic book story crutch of female characters being regularly killed off largely as a narrative means to motivate the male characters and thus being treated as disposable. This lead to the future incidents of comic book writers resorting to this misogynistic cliche, such as when the Stephanie Brown Robin was killed off in the Batman comics, beset was beset with fan protests and demands that it be reversed, which was done concerning Brown.
