Fall Down Hilarious With A Serious Message
johnstonjames23 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
i watched this twice and could'nt stop laughing each time. as funny as this was, the message about waring and fighting was crystal clear and a rather sober one. don't always have such an agenda for war and fighting and learn to love your neighbor. even if he is undeserving of the title of "first New Years baby born".

there are so many observations and statements in this whole thing i would'nt know where to start or finish. Watts is a stupid kid who is encouraged by his mother, who has taught him, to beat up the neighbor boy, Eddie, who she feels stole Watts's birthright as the first New Years baby of 1970. if he continues to womp on Eddie, Watts will go to the penitentiary, but if he does'nt, his momma will womp him good. with these hilarious options, Watts sets out to understand himself and figure out what to do.

the direction was quite good, but it was the acting and the script that were so memorable. one of the supporting characters, the role of Watts's beleaguered father, was almost the funniest of all, and the scene where he sneaks back home to council Watts is a side splitter.

deftly funny and wise,'Fighting Eddie' is a independent gem that should be viewed and remembered with fondness. it's a warm and caring film and deserves that much.
