Sex & Nudity

  • One of the ghosts wears a bikini. But she is humorously very unattractive.

Violence & Gore

  • The Hunter's Room has animal heads and whatnot that Luigi makes negative comments about.
  • Luigi can take physical damage from ghost attacks, including being punched, lit on fire, and hit with flying objects. Other than that, there is no overt level of violence to be seen.

Profanity

  • The Professor refers to the ghosts as "buggers" in a book.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A few wine bottles and glasses appear. They cannot be consumed, and are for decoration.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Much darker and scarier than most Mario games.
  • The main bulk of the game takes place in a large, dimly lit mansion haunted with countless ghosts. Many of these ghosts take on somewhat fiendish appearances that could scare younger children.
  • Ghosts pop out of nowhere, startling Luigi and can serve as a jump scare for the player.
  • A terrible storm rages outside with loud thunder and bright lightning pounding and flashing through the windows, adding to the horror atmosphere.
  • Luigi can spy upon a gravestone and mutters a statement about the finality of dying; not knowing when to expect it.
  • There are rumors that the game was originally meant to be much darker in tone, dark enough to warrant at T rating.
  • Suggested ESRB rating: Rated E10+ for cartoon violence, comic mischief, some scary scenes.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In the beta version of the game, Luigi's depressed expression appears in the "Game Over" scene that would scare some players, which doesn't appear in the actual release.
  • In the final boss fight against King Boo, the Bowser Costume looses it's head (No blood or gore). After King Boo takes enough damage, the costume will put its head back on. After King Boo has 200HP or less, the head will be put on backwards and chases the player. After defeating King Boo, the head lifeless body of the Bowser Costume fall to the ground.
  • There's a room with deer trophies and animal pelt rugs. This could upset those who are sensitive to animal cruelty and are against hunting.
