Gwyneth Paltrow To Take A Break

24 October 2001 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Gwyneth Paltrow is taking a well-earned break from movies - after filming no less that five flicks in a row. The sexy screen star made The Anniversary Party, Possession, Shallow Hal, The Royal Tenenbaums and A View From The Top all in quick succession and is now sitting back to enjoy the fruits of her hard work. Tenenbaums, which co-stars Ben Stiller, Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston and Luke Wilson, is already generating a considerable buzz in Hollywood circles. A source says, "It's a genius piece of art with very weird characters - very weird. Critics will love it, though the American public might have reservations about it." The Wes Anderson-directed film tells the tale of the reunion of a very unconventional family.

Alan Cumming To Quit Acting?

21 August 2001 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Alan Cumming enjoys directing so much he may never step in front of the camera again. The Scottish star has said he would be "quite happy" if he never performed again. Cumming's first film as a director, The Anniversary Party, is set to have its British premiere at Scotland's Edinburgh Film Festival this month. He co-directed the film, which stars Kevin Kline and Gwyneth Paltrow, with Jennifer Jason Leigh. He says, "We were working together in cabaret on Broadway and we just came up with this story. All the parts were written with the specific actors in mind. I think for Kevin and Gwyneth it gave them a chance to parody themselves in a way." And Cumming says he plans to direct again in the near future. He says, "I have two films I'm working on at the moment. The first one is set in London and is about how your friends become your family. The other is set in New York and is about a voyeur."

Jennifer Jason Leigh To Abandon Acting For Directing?

5 July 2001 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Jennifer Jason Leigh wants to move into writing and directing after working as screenwriter and director on her new film The Anniversary Party. The actress, who turns 40 next year, co-wrote and co- directed the drama - about a married couple on divergent life and career paths - with Scottish actor Alan Cumming. And Jennifer found the experience so satisfying, she's seriously considering making a permanent move to behind the camera. "There's just nothing more fun in the world," she enthuses, adding she's been offered countless opportunities to direct other people's screenplays but only wants to work with material she's written herself. Leigh, who started working on The Anniversary Party after going through a romantic break-up, adds, "I'll always want to act. But the nice thing is now I can write myself great parts."

Cumming And Leigh Willing To Sell Themselves

8 June 2001 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Alan Cumming and Jennifer Jason Leigh were so short of cash while making their latest film that they contemplated selling themselves to the tabloids. The pair have just finished writing, directing and starring in The Anniversary Party, and co-star Jennifer Beals admits money got tight while the film was in post-production. Beals plays a photographer in the film and took actual shots of the actors, who play a married couple, as research for the role. She says, "There was a time when they thought they wouldn't have enough money for post-production. I had all these wedding photographs and we thought we could sell them to the tabloids and pretend they really were married and get some money for post production."

Gwyneth Helps Alan Cumming With New Movie

15 May 2001 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Kline are to help launch Scottish actor pal Alan Cumming's first film as a director for no more than a cup of coffee. Cumming has co-directed and co-written the new comedy The Anniversary Party with sexy actress Jennifer Jason Leigh. The film, set against the backdrop of a couple's sixth wedding anniversary party, was made in 19 days in the house of an architect friend in the Hollywood Hills. Cumming says, "Who could possibly believe you could get a line-up like that for the price of a pint? That's what friends are for. They even did their own make-up!"
