This award-winning documentary is must-viewing for anyone interested in the developments following the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Released ten years after the fall of the wall, this bilingual English/German film interviews several interesting characters including Berliners from both sides, Americans and Britons familiar with the city, among others. They bring fascinating and sometimes off the wall comments and perspectives of the Wall's aftermath. The revealing visuals keep you captive while listening to the commentary. A winner at the 1999 Berlin Film Film Festival (in the Neue Deutsche Filme sidebar), NACH DEM FALL of "After the Wall" is actually a German/American co-production, which, hopefully, will be released in the United States, and considered in the Best Feature Length Documentary Category in the upcoming Academy Awards. In Berlin, where I saw it in November 1999, the film was in release in cinemas as a normal feature. Outside Germany, AFTER THE WALL will, with some luck, eventually become available at least in video format. When this happens, see it as soon as possible. Some of the projects described in the film are now being completed, so the film may be somewhat dated as soon as a year from now.
