My dream!
chowdr19 October 2000
My dream is to go to an all girl school so that for once I can get noticed!

This show is like my favorite. Its funny, entertaining, and it has a good story towards Jed and Kate how their friends but their both like too shy to ask each other out. What makes the show entertaining is Phil and Carey. Without them, the show just wouldn't be the same. Phil is the smart one who actually knows what he's doing. Although Carey, all he thinks about is sex, girls, etc. Jed is in between. He's mature and he's not like Carey..... And not like Phil as well. He's smart, but not that smart, and he doesn't always think about sex because sometimes he's not comfortable with it. Now there's also Stella and Miranda. Stella, the pretty looking one but yet, she's mean. She's not really into guys so she has doubt about them (Jed, Phil and Carey) going to the all girl school. (I forgot the name of the school so please don't mind!) And then there was Miranda. Now her relationship is not as serious as Jed and Kate, but my opinion is that she does have a small crush on him. You could tell a little bit..... But what do I know?! I can't understand girls!

So overall, I think that this is a great show and I hope this show will last for a very long long long long long time.

Great cast, good fun
SnoopyStyle8 September 2013
It's a completely ridiculous concept. Three guys are the first allowed into the all-girls school Evergreen Academy in northern California.

Sure the premise is stupid. At its core, it's really a simple high school drama except it has only three guys. And what a great trio. They get Milo Ventimiglia, Kyle Howard and Chris Evans. All three would do bigger and better things later on in their careers. The three girls opposite won't be as successful, but I am still entranced by Allson Mack. The show is lots of fun. But just to see more of the cast, this show deserves more than eight episodes. It ended too soon.

A Short Lived Show Before it's Time
scbigmac0730 June 2012
I remember catching the pilot episode when it first aired, the premise was definitely a fantasy of many young guys, myself included. I was unfortunate enough to have been in the middle of moving so I was unable to catch the rest while it was airing, and for over a decade, I'd always wondered what the show was called and whatever happened to it. Well fortunately I found a few episodes, and managed to watch the lone 8 episodes. And my biggest gripe is that it was ended so quickly.

Three guys get admitted into a formerly all-girl school, and happen to be the only three guys. What would seem to be paradise to many young guys turns out to be quite the adventure for them.

Many of the classic conflicts occur in this short-lived show, from love triangles to getting their licenses. Many of these actors and actresses have moved on to greater things.

I recommend it for any of those that enjoyed shows similar to The OC.

Potential--not what I expected.
psychotic_venom18 July 2000
While all the promo spots for this "Sex Comedy" depicted 3 boys having their reign over a school full of girls that seemed to fall at their feet as though they were the oasis they had been looking for, the show itself was quite different.

I turned this on last night expecting to see what every teenage boy might DREAM of: A school full of beautiful women--demanding to have their sexual needs met, and a low supply of boys. Instead, you get a smart comedy that depicts how these girls are a little hostile, a little resistant to change, few are begging for sex, and Jed (the character through which you see most of the action) properly reacts to this strange situation; He feels outcast and lied in a time when every kid wants to be accepted--even though there ARE 300 beautiful women around him.

You can already see where some of the show is going--probably a smarter, funnier, and much more entertaining version of "Saved by the Bell" at it's best, judging by the pairing of 3 female leads with the 3 males in the opening sequence. At it's worst, it could be just another teen-comedy.

Judging by the pilot--I'd be leaning towards the smart and witty side, with a little teen-fantasy thrown in for good measure.

I enjoy it!

Warning: Spoilers
I know this show aired about 7 years ago but just recently someone started to post it on Youtube, so I've been watching it. I've watched 4 out of 8 episodes that aired and I must say I enjoy it. I like the humor, because even though they are "sex jokes", it's not crude. It's a fun and unique idea. Jed Perry, played by Milo Ventimiglia, transfers to an all girl school that just became co-ed. The show follows him as he finds finds friends and love, and gets in touch with his feminine side. Watch the last scene of the pilot episode to see what I am talking about. Obviously, a lot of the cast members are blown up now on t.v or in movies, like Milo, Allison Mack and Chris Evans. But this was obviously one of their first real jobs and they looked like they were having fun. T.v always cheats us when they cut off good t.v for crap like American Idol and The Simple Life. Especially Fox. I wish it would of had AT LEAST one FULL SEASON. But I was happy to at least get 8 episodes. It's better than nothing at all.

Most original, funny teen show yet
juddy-27 June 2000
Three guys trapped in an all girls school - finally, a teen show with a unique perspective. There's no talking to the camera, it's not self aware and annoying. Opposite Sex is funny, original, and the lead actor, Milo is absolutely adorable.

AWESOME 10 years later!!

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. I found this online and like another viewer, was hooked! I just watched all 8 episodes and surprised that it ended so soon. Smart, funny and the cast has really great dynamics. Based on the premise of 3 young male teens attending a previously all-girl high school. Since they're the only males, they stick out and attempt to fit in. One hilarious scene has them singing at the school's Ladies Night, where groups of girls get together and since "empowerment" type songs. The guys dress in drag and deliver a stunning performance. Another funny episode has these guys coming to the sudden realization that they've been "chickified", and are now behaving like girls (going to the bathroom together, 3-way calling about their day, exchanging cooking recipes). There's too many laugh-out-loud moments to list.

Disappointing that we'll never get to see what happens to Jed & Kate or Cary &Stella. Jed (Milo Ventimiglia) is a good guy, but he has insecurities, especially related to the opposite sex. There's a lot of talk about sex in this series: contemplating, attempting to get laid, etc. But it's not the sole focus, it's definitely not overdone.

One of the best moments is when Jed tells Miranda that he doesn't want to lose his virginity so soon, because he wants to do it when he can be sure that he'll make the girl feel good. A sweet, but conflicted and complex character. Kate (Allison Mack), who's smarter than most adults and can always make Jed laugh, is his true crush, but he gets distracted by the seemingly easy Miranda. Miranda loves shocking people for the sake of it, for example her birthday party "theme" focused on finding two virgins to "sacrifice" at her choosing.

Phil (Kyle Howard) & Cary are the only other two boys at the school. Phil being a "walking GPA" super-focused on doing everything right to get into college including running for city councilman. Cary's not so smart, and tries to define his reputation as a ladies man, but turns out to be a sweet and good-natured. A funny thing about there being only 3 boys at the school, is that the have to wear the same gym uniform as the girls (bright yellow shirt with purple shorts)and their "locker room" is actually the janitor's basement.

This had great actors and great writing, it's really a shame that FOX cancels its best shows all the time. It never had a chance to reach all of its intended audience and its full potential. What's most delightful is seeing actors like Milo Ventimiglia, Allison Mack and Kyle Howard in earlier roles.

Loved every minute of it
marina_kostyukova11 July 2020
I discovered it 20 years after it first aired and I was amazed!

2000th - you were not so bad after all! Great cast, interesting story-line, funny jokes (not dorky-funny, actually funny). Cool male protagonist (Milo Ventimiglia as Jed) who showed positive, strong and charming example of masculinity. What a chance to find on TV at early 2000 a teenage guy who doesn't afraid to show his vulnerability, who isn't obsessed with sex and totally supportive towards girls?!

Tell me why it was canceled, again? 8 episodes limit is the only thing I didn't like about this show. To my opinion, "Opposite sex" is better then many of the teenage series that we have today.

So, Netflix, if you thinking what needs to be revived next, just give it a shot. With a good plot and actors it will be in the top of your ratings.

A rather bland TV show.
OllieSuave-0075 July 2017
A rather dull and ho-hum TV show about the lives of three teenage boys who attend Evergreen Academy, a previous all-female school.

This series is more of those atypical chick flicks with drawn-out teenage fare and sappy puppy-love relationships that really doesn't give for a good story. The main plot was rather boring and he comedy is almost non-existent.

The acting wasn't bad, however. The actors held up their own a little with what bland materials and story plots they have to work with.

Grade D

Great

I also saw this on Channel Four recently at some crazy hour. The premise seemed totally ridiculously and the first episode or two seemed stupid too. But it really did grow on you. The casting agent should be particularly praised and the actors were perhaps the best thing about this short lived series.I fell in love with Alison Mack during this series. Nevertheless the writing was funny and some of the episodes quite surreal. Indeed the depiction teenage love was very true to life and insightful. The kids were real and you could relate to them unlike the verbose annoying characters in Dawson's Creek. This series had great potential but again it was mainly the young actors who made it work.

Why cancel a great show?
Elgin_McQueen3 January 2003
I too have just been watching the entire first series of Opposite Sex and have to say this could've been one of the best new TV series for a long time. The show worked, it was funny and entertaining and even though it was shown between 3 and 5 a.m. I stayed up to see pretty much every episode. It wasn't until I visited this site and checked it out that I realised it only ran for one season. But on the plus side it introduced me to some great young actors e.g. Allison Mack, for whom I will be eagerly looking out for in the future. Every actor fitted into the role perfectly and for that we can be happy.

Happier still if they'd let it run for a while longer.

they never gave it a chance
matlock-619 August 2001
I was really sad when this was cancelled. I enjoyed all of the shows that I got to see, not just because it was funny, but funny without resorting to gross out humor. The humor was innocent, and the storyline depicted what was basically a nice guy getting stuck into what had previously been an all-girls school. This was a great idea and should have supported a wealth of writing, but unfortunately we will never know. One thing that might have helped the show along would have been to switch point of view from week to week (as was done in Northern Exposure). Tell the weeks episode from a different character standpoint, rather than just from that of the main character. It's too bad that Fox gave up so quickly on summer programming because they really came up with some nice, fresh shows and bright young talent.

Great, Short Lived Show
MovieMilhouse217 September 2003
This was a hilariously great show that was never really given a chance. This is another one of the many shows that Fox jumped the gun and killed early on. It probably didn't generate a lot of viewers in the beginning so Fox went ahead and put it to sleep. I watched practically every episode. I was also saddened when it went off the air. I really wish that it was on the air, because nobody seems to understand it when I try to explain it to somebody.

One of the best shows that's being canceled
flower843 September 2000
As you may already know, Fox is dumping this show along w/ the other great show Get Real. In return they're getting new shows such as Dark Angel which doesn't look all that appealing to me. But then again, every time i find a show that I like it's always canceled. Malcolm in the Middle and SNL are the only exceptions. Anyway, I really liked this show. It had a good premise and a lot of great "new" actors that are up and coming. I especially like Milo Ventimiglia (Jed), Chris Evans (Carey), and Lindsey McKeon (Stella). The scenes w/ Carey and Stella are hilarious and clever. I also love the music that they use, such as "Good Things" by Everything and that song that they played at the end of the episode where Miranda was going to sacrifice two virgins at her birthday party. I have all the episodes on tape (six of 'em) and was looking foward to the upcoming episode where they are left behind at school. However, Fox yanked the show before it aired, so you could imagine my surprise when I watched the tape last night and instead of Oppisite Sex, I had taped Ally McBeal. I'm p'o'd that Fox would cancel this show, but then again most networks dump the shows with the most unforseen promise without giving them so much of a chance.

Pleasantly surprised
acmadude8 August 2000
From the advertisements I saw for this show it looked like it would just be completely plotless; as if the point of this show was just to attract guys to gawk at all the girls. I decided to watch an episode and I was happy to see there actually was a plot and a good one I might add. I can't wait to see more episodes. However, this does seem like the type of show that would get cancelled soon; I don't think they get too many viewers. But it should be fun while it lasts.

Absolute Genius
iheartkylehoward25 May 2003
The Opposite Sex was the most incredible program ever made. I found myself always staying up until 3 in the morning to watch it. The script and plots were exellent and the actors were all so talented, especially Kyle Howard. I personally was very dissapointed that it was cancelled. And even more disappointed that Kate and Phil did not become a couple, although I was delighted when they kissed. Jed obviously should've chosen Miranda, as they were perfect for each other. I was also sad not to see more appearances by the Drugs Conselor man, who first appeared in "The Drug Episode". I hope Stella and Carrie live happily ever after as they truly are soulmates.

Has great potential
Op_Prime21 July 2000
Opposite Sex certainly has an interesting and original premise that many would find original. I expected the show to be funny and it was. It has a very witty and clever side to it. Opposite Sex has definite potential to do well as a series. Highly recommend.

An up and coming show
Thdistancetohere21 August 2000
I have been watching Opposite Sex now for a few weeks. Each week this show keeps getting better and better. I think it is interesting how I can recognize some of the characters, most notable being Lindsey McKeon from Saved by The Bell. The show keeps improving and my chuckles are turning into laughter. Keep watching, because no one gets voted off of the show like Survivor.

Surprising.
CAGE-1317 July 2000
This show surprised me in many ways. I ways expecting something totally different. It was funny and otherwise entertaining. I look forward to additional episodes and story lines. It's a promising series, and maybe it won't be canceled. Because Fox is releasing so many series this fall, some may be cancelled; but I hope not this one, because it is good and it can go somewhere beautiful . . . wait, it already has . . .
