The Radishes Of Age

It's unusual to come across such an outrageous mix of horror and comedy, especially for a short film. Great dialogue, great editing, great cinematography; one of my absolute favorites. Best line: "You don't like Lorna Doones!"

Warning: Spoilers
Possible SPOILERS:::::: This short is awesome. I stumbled upon it in a video compilation of other shorts called "Smash Cuts". This one was the best on there by far. It starts of on a peaceful Sunday afternoon and ends in a bloodbath. The dialogue was great. The conversation seemed like authentic old lady speak, which adds to the surprise greatly. The camerawork was really masterful, as well. It wasn't just some film school grad trying not to violate the 180 degree rule around a card table for 10 minutes; it really made you feel like you were in some old grandmother's house. Ancient pictures on the wall, deliberate cookie arrangements, the casting of the fluffy white cat gave it really thick and flavorful mise-en-scene. Even the late afternoon lighting in the room made it seem like you could almost smell the 40 year musk. Now the special effects were pretty good, it wasn't anything super-special, but they didn't over do it (like so many low-budgets tend to do). Most importantly, the effects were tasteful (within the realm of blood and guts).

Highly enjoyable short film presents a group of old ladies enjoying a Sunday game of Russian Roulette. Paying little mind to the brains of their friends being splattered about the room, the gun travels 'round the table as the women gossip and have tea. Very rough little film is played for the darkest laughs ever. Excellent. 7.5/10

I liked the references to Chicago (the city in which I reside) in this short which details a group of women playing cards. Eventually the end up playing Russian roulette and I don't want to spoil the ending but do think this short is worth seeing for some laughs.Warning, this is not for the squeamish.

Splatter-comedy classic in five minutes!

This was one of the greatest. Old ladies (VERY authentic old ladies with VERY authentic and believeable roles that they play well) get together for a game of what we think is going to be cards. That is, until out comes the revolver for a shatteringly deadpan round of Russian Roulette! I've showed this to a lot of people, and this is the one movie I've got that ALWAYS evokes a reactive response, whether they like it or not. The gore score and body count loudly tick by with about every minute of this very short movie that packs more of a wallop in its teency running time than a good amount of feature-lengths have. To top everything off, it's funnier than hell! There's also some great little nods at the fun-loving wacko streak that seems to really run in the filmmakers, seeing as how Puff the cat is played by "Dennis Woodruff"! I love it when weird people make movies. It gives us other weird people something to watch! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go see what my brains look like on Mom's wallpaper....
