In 2013, Václav Vorlícek was asked to direct an upcoming remake of the series for German television with all-German cast. He refused.
According to director Václav Vorlícek, his first choice for the role of princess Arabela was Libuse Safránková, the star of his earlier feature films. Unfortunatelly, the actress was ill at the time of shooting, so Vorlícek cast young actress Jana Nagyová instead. However, because of her strong Slovak accent was Nagyová over-dubbed in post production by Libuse Safránková.
The show aired in 57 other countries as well, like Yugoslavia (Slovenia and Macedonia), Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Russia in the 1980s and also in Croatia in 1990s. It was also very popular in West Germany, where it was renamed "Die Märchenbraut" (lit: "The Fairy Tale Bride"), while in East Germany it was broadcast under its original title.
Because of Jana Nagyová's distinct Slovak accent, which was deemed too hard for children to properly understand, the actual voice of Arabela was provided by Libuse Safránková.
