So sweet! Megan Hilty recorded a special song on her new album A Merry Little Christmas just for her 2-year-old daughter Viola Philomena.
“My daughter’s obsessed with Christmas movies — very specifically the Rankin/Bass movies. You know, those stop-motions like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town, Frosty the Snowman,” the expectant Broadway star, 35, tells People.

NBC is thankful this week for an “NCIS” rerun and no “Dancing With the Stars” season finale. The No. 1 network’s “This Is Us” broke its own viewership record last night at 9 p.m., landing 10.6 million overall audience members. At 8, CW’s “The Flash” scored its most eyeballs (4.1 million) in two years, thanks to its Tuesday turn as part of this week’s DC Comics mega-crossover. That same hour, CBS aired “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” which actually beat “The Voice” in the key 18-49 demographic. The CW finished fourth on the evening, topping Fox and the Spanish-language nets. It was.

Just in time to kick off the holiday season, the fellows over at Screen Junkies released an Honest Trailer poking fun at the Christmas classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
Set to the tune of the popular Rudolph carol, the four-minute video points out the bizarre in the 1964 stop motion animated special, that according to them is “so much weirder” than they remember.
“We thought we’d sing this famous carol if it were honest about what actually happens in the film,” the voiceover says, before singing about how the main reindeers are cruel to Rudolph and he’s sent to exile.
“This prepubescent reindeer, had a neon whistling nose. And when someone else sees it, their tiny little mind explodes,” the song goes. “All of the other reindeers treat him like he’s got the plague. They send him into exile ‘cause this Santa’s full of rage.”

When an August Wilson play is adapted for the big screen with Denzel Washington and Viola Davis reprising two powerhouse roles that won them Tony Awards on Broadway, it’s almost impossible for there not to be Oscar buzz. Such is the case with “Fences,” whose first teaser left a bold impression at the end of September.
The new official trailer is bound to raise anticipation through the roof, as it features some of the most intense work of both actors’ film career. Davis recently confirmed she’d be campaigning for Best Supporting Actress, and from the looks of it she’s a bonafide frontrunner. Read our review of the drama right here.

I know Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a Christmas classic. I've been watching the damn thing every year since I was a kid, and the older I got the crazier I realized it was. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has got some majorly amusing issues, and this latest Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies points them all out to you in the form of the movie's classic theme song in which they describe the story as being about a "prepubescent reindeer" and "Santa's elf slave" and their "group of freaks." The Honest Trailer also points out that it's "Lord of the Rings for kids on acid" and that the moral of the story Is that being different is bad, unless your defect is useful. No one can deny Geek Culture has gotten bigger, broader and more mainstream. It’s cool to know about comics and comic characters’ history. It’s now cool to wear shirts with superhero images no matter what your age. And even mainstream retailer Bed Bath and Beyond is getting into the act, borrowing the soon-to-be unveiled Captain America statue for the grand opening of a new store before it makes a permanent home in Brooklyn.

So, wise reader, you may have heard of the passing of this giant in the world of cartooning, and are now wondering what he has to do with the world of motion pictures. Well, Mr. Davis did have one screen credit, which we’ll discuss in a bit. No, more importantly John Burton “Jack” Davis, Jr. has added to the fun, or to use an old term “ballyhoo”, of promoting movies for well over fifty years. It’s difficult not to think of his work when recalling so many classic films.
First, a little bio background. He was born on December 2, 1924 in Atlanta Georgia. After graduating from the University of Georgia, Jack landed several cartooning gigs including a stint with the newspaper comic strip based ion the classic character “The Saint”. In 1997, actor Rick Moranis made the really respectful and admirable choice of leaving acting after his wife had passed away from cancer in order to focus more on raising their kids. Since he essentially “retired,” Moranis has done some voice acting in animated films like Brother Bear and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys, but he’s really been out of the limelight since hitting it big in the 80s and 90s with movies like Parenthood and, obviously, Ghostbusters. I recently had the opportunity to attend a press conference with Krampus director Michael Dougherty, who has directed both a Halloween movie with Trick 'r Treat and now a Christmas movie. After joking that the next holiday horror film he would be making would be set during Passover, he got into talking about his fantastically fun new film, Krampus.
One of my favorite aspects of the film was the terrifying creature designs. There were so many wonderfully horrific holiday monsters in it, and the design for Krampus himself was particularly nightmarish. When asked about coming up with the design for the character, the director shared that he got his start in the business doing traditional animation for Nickelodeon and MTV. Halloween hasn't even happened yet, but the Christmas decorations are already taking over drug stores so ABC is just going ahead and announcing its 2015 holiday lineup. Like stores playing Christmas music in October and people forming lines outside Best Buy the Monday before Black Friday, it's apparently never too early to start preparing for the holiday season. Well, Netflix has officially upped the ante this morning, debuting the first teaser for its upcoming holiday special "A Very Murray Christmas" starring, who else, Bill Murray. If you're like me you love Lost in Translation, and if that's the case you'll be delighted to know Netflix's upcoming special is written and directed by Sofia Coppola. The teaser features Murray wistfully staring out the window of a high-rise, wearing thick black suspenders and a pair of reindeer antlers. All that's missing is the Suntory whisky. The video is just a small taste of something bigger, as "A Very Murray Christmas" is described as an homage to the classic variety show, with Murray playing himself, worried no one will show...

Don't you just love the smell of corporate synergy in the morning? Perhaps that's an unfair statement. Animated Christmas specials have become traditional to American holiday celebrations, ever since they first began airing in 1970s. Stop-motion productions like Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town became instant classics, and have since been aired in marathons and special segments on TV for decades, and become an integral part of many families' Christmas festivities.
Here are the Top 5 animated Christmas Specials you don't want to miss this holiday season.
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town

In 1964, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” made its television debut. Since then, it’s become a staple of holiday viewing.
The special is fifty years old this year and its charm still hasn’t worn out. It’s narrated by a snowman, voiced by Burl Ives (who oddly enough carries a banjo that he never uses during the show), and contributed “Holly Jolly Christmas” to the playlist of Christmas music that seems to be everywhere as soon as November starts. And, while Rudolph is purportedly the star of the show, other characters seem to have resonated more with the audience.
I remember watching “Rudolph” every year when I was little. That was how I knew that Christmas was coming, it was one of the major signs. There were other things I looked for, the Christmas lights being strung up on Main Street in town right after Thanksgiving, with giant tinsel pieces...

Michael Bublé had an adorable Christmas outing with his son, Noah, and his wife, Luisana Lopilato, in Canada on Monday. The group went to the Christmas Theme Park in Vancouver's famous Stanley Park, where they greeted Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with smiles and high fives. Since the singer already gave us a huge dose of the holiday season with his and Idina Menzel's cover of "Baby, It's Cold Outside," it's nice to see him getting some back. There's been no shortage of cute family moments for Michael this year, from the video he posted where he sang Nsync to his son to their adorable outing on Father's Day. Keep reading to see the latest exclusive pics!

Ja from Mnpp here, ho ho hosting this week's ho ho holiday edition of "Beauty vs Beast" for y'all (okay okay I got all my ho ho's out, I promise) -- a couple of weeks ago Tfe's resident animation guru Tim gave good love to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and it struck me like a peppermint pick-axe to the brain, what this week's face-off needed to be. Holiday specials date back to the earliest days of network television, when Jackie Gleason donned Santa garb on The Honeymooners and Desi Arnaz pumped up traditional carols with Cuban conga beats on I Love Lucy. Each decade since then has generated examples of “very special” episodes and one-off variety hours that, in hindsight, perfectly, and often hilariously, embody their era.
Think of A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in the ’60s; The Star Wars Holiday Special and The Donny and Marie Christmas Show in the ’70s; and Christmas Comes to Pac-Land and ’Tis the Season to Be Smurfy in the ’80s. The ’90s, of course, kept the tradition going with its own unmistakable (multiply pierced) earmarks. The decade of alterna-culture, outrageous cartoon debuts that weren’t just for kids, and the early Internet also begat its share of unmistakably of-its-moment December broadcast fare.

Making a beloved Christmas special can be a daunting task. But the basics for a decent holiday special are simple: a happy moral lesson, some winter cheer, and absolutely no death, kidnapping, or insanity.
Really, during the holidays, all people want to do is relax, sit down with their families, and watch wholesome entertainment that won't leave anyone psychologically scarred or emotionally confused for years to come. That is why it is absolutely inexplicable that these totally bonkers holiday specials ever made it onto TV.

This depressing Christmas special takes place during the days of the Roman Empire, and tells the story of a donkey with freakishly long ears that is disliked and made fun of by all the other animals in the stable.

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer) may have a very shiny nose (like a light bulb), but there are eight other reindeer on his team who all have plenty of good qualities too. So yes, Rudolph may be the most famous reindeer of all, but who is the best?
From best to worst, a ranking of all of Santa’s reindeer:
Watch: An entire neighborhood teamed up for this insane light show
BBC
1. Vixen: We love a strong, confident woman. Vixen is the only female reindeer on the team (hello, glass ceiling!) and continuously defies the expectations of her misogynistic male colleagues. #LeanIn
2. Prancer: So kind. So sweet. So sure of himself. Such a sensitive soul. It’s no wonder why Prancer was the only other reindeer to inspire a spinoff movie of his own (called Prancer, look it up on IMDb).
3. Rudolph: You probably assumed Rudolph would get the No. 1 spot, right...

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, December 9, 2014. CBS' odd couple pairing of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show proved effective, pushing the network to victory both overall and among young viewers. After last week's bump, NBC's "The Voice," "Marry Me" and "About a Boy" were all down, while the network also got weak numbers for its hour-long commercial for Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken." There was better news, though, on Fox, where "New Girl" and "The Mindy Project" were both up and also on The CW, where "The Flash" held onto last week's "Arrow" crossover gains. And for "Supernatural," it was the most watched episode in four years, since October 2010. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 2.6 rating for Tuesday night, far ahead of the 1.4 rating for both NBC and Fox in the key demographic. ABC and The CW tied for fourth with a 1.3 key demo rating.

Rudolph is set to air from 8 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by the hour-long NCIS and then the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show at 10 p.m. Despite the NCIS buffer, the PTC wants the network to be mindful of both NCIS and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show's

This time of year there's no shortage of tradiontional holiday flicks floating around on TV to help get you in the Christmas Spirit. Watching these films go hand-in-hand with the season and the Cinelinx crew is breaking down some of our favorites and why it simply isn't Christmas until we've watched them!
The holidays are a special time of the year that brings people together. Tasty meals are cooked up, joyful music plays on the radio, and magical films play on TV. It is a time to make memories and enjoy the company of friends and family. Due to all this activity, the holidays can also be a stressful time of year. Sometimes we need a little help to get in the mood and see how endearing the season can be. Sometimes we need a reminder of what makes this time of year special and fun.
That’s where movies come in.

DJ Flula Borg is no stranger to silly antics and amazing beats. The YouTube star decided to bring both to Entertainment Weekly’s New York City office by performing his rendition of popular Christmas songs. In EW’s video, Flula enters the office and sits down at a cubicle, stocked very sparingly with little more than a computer, a microphone, a mixing board, and a speaker. The German YouTuber then spreads some holiday cheer by “caroling” hip-hop versions of famous tunes such as “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Needless to say, the EW staff looks on in bewilderment. The German musician showed up at the EW offices to honor its magazine’s newest cover, which highlights the three main Barden Bella actresses from the upcoming film Pitch Perfect 2. Flula announced he’d signed on for the film in May of 2014. More recently, online viewers caught a...

It’s the great Olivia Pope getting it on, Charlie Brown!
The Parents Television Council – the self-appointed watchdog group of modesty on TV, the same people that blasted Glee for promoting “public masturbation," called Gossip Girl “mind-blowingly inappropriate” (only to have that sound bite used on all of the CW's ads), and have a long history of haaaaating Family Guy – has apparently finally found Scandal.
Not sure what took them so long (it’s trending on Twitter every week), but nonetheless, the PTC is leading a campaign against Scandal’s depiction of “graphic sex.” Again, not sure what took them so long, there has been So Much sex on this show.
So what finally tipped the scale for the PTC?
