Another south Indian remake of 80s
silvan-desouza20 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
In 80s there were plenty of south remakes especially starring Jeetendra, Sridevi,Jaya Pradha. This time Rajesh Khanna too gives them company. The film is a remake of the Telugu movie Mundadugu (1983) directed by K. Bapaiah himself. The film is a typical masala potboiler with almost every theme in the past, we have long lost cousins, some inane comedy, some cartoonish villains. The film resembles a south film, we have Rajesh Khanna who was in his 40s trying to look young by wearing t-shirts and sleeveless t-shirts but his paunch and receeding hairline doesn't help him. The comedy scenes are very tortorious, the drama is okay but too much melodrama. The action scenes are damn laughable, in fight scenes Jeetendra and Rajesh Khanna fly like superman it's really corny

Direction by K Bapaiah is okay Music by Bhappi Lahiri is okay but the choreography of the songs is very crude at times

Rajesh Khanna as I said with his receeding hairline and paunch is quite okay but tends to overdo at times, Jeetendra looks better but his act is as usual Sridevi in a dubbed voice is okay, Jaya Pradha tries hard to look modern Kader Khan hams it up and gets to the nerves, Prem Chopra, Shakti Kapoor, Ranjeet are typical, Amjad Khan is funny as the cartoon Shreeram Lagoo is as usual, Waheeda Rehman too is as usual, Om Shivpuri lends good support, Shatrughan Sinha has a cameo and is okay

fami;y fare
cohuman9 July 2022
RK is the same age as Jeetendra but looks more bloated and flabby . Its difficult to take him as a young play boy hero. He is perfect as a rich man's son . Jeetendra and his cousin Sridevi are good as poor children ofSriramLagoo . The role of a poor woman does not suit Waheeda Rehman shes by default dignified and good looking . A lot of fights and twists occur. A perfect family fare of the 80s .

A pretty typical 80's Bollywood blockbuster
Ibuk26 July 2015
Maqsad when released became a huge success and it's not hard to figure out why. It had everything the movie going public would have wanted from a Bollywood movie (action, comedy, romance and drama). Reviewing it 30 years on and after I have seen it for the first time I can't say I enjoyed it all that much. Maybe it's because after watching so many blockbusters from the 80's, I have become somewhat cynical towards them. For instance Shreeram Lagoo at the start depressing over their poor status frankly annoyed me. Plotwise it is pretty much all over the place, with the writer trying to cram in as much as they can into the movie. The movie doesn't really get going until almost two hours into the movie when someone is killed. The music, by Bhappi Lahiri wasn't that remarkable either. It is however worth watching just for the superb cast consisting of Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Pradha, Sridevi and a supporting cast of well known names like Om Shivpuri, Waheeda Rehman, Amjad Khan, Shreeram Lagoo and a special appearance from Shatraughan Sinha. Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Kadr Khan and Shakti Kapoor provide the mandatory villainy for a Bollywood blockbuster of the 80's. They go through the motions basically, nothing special to make them stand out among the standard Bollywood villains. I can understand that movie making has changed vastly over the years and Maqsad was clearly a product of it's time. Maybe if I had seen the movie in my childhood then I would have had a much different opinion of it.

Block Buster
alokc30 April 2007
This 1984 movie is a commercial block buster with Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra in main roles. It is a typical type of movies which Jeetendra was acting in 1980's with Rajesh Khanna joining him in this movie. They are supported by Sridevi, Jayaprada, Amzad Khan, Kader Khan, Ranjeet,Asrani, Shakti Kapoor and Prem Chopra. It is a commercial movie and a good time pass. It has loud music by Bappi Lahiri and has all commercial ingredients in it. Super Star Rajesh Khanna is also there and tries to put in a performance in a role which does not have much to demand. It is a good time pass and will keep one entertained for 3 hours.

Typical pot boiler
sanjayppc16 April 2014
This is one of the typical potboilers that was being churned out in the 80s. Most of them were remakes of Telugu hits. Jeetendra was the leading man in most of them. Rajesh Khanna too did quite a few - Naya Kadam, Masterji, Maqsad, Asha Jyoti, Aaj Ka MLA etc., This movie was the 2nd highest grosser in 1984. It was one of the last hits in Kaka's magnificent career. This film however suits only Jeetendra. There is nothing for an actor of Kaka's caliber here. It was quite shocking to see Kaka teasing Sridevi with crude lyrics in a song, something which was not expected in his films. His costumes were also garish. He even wore yellow pants in a scene. Kaka was fat & his hairline was receding & so paired opposite a young Sridevi, it was a mismatch.

Jeetendra is his usual wooden self. Sridevi & Japyparadha looked gorgeous & there is a climax dance sequence featuring them which is a highlight. It was reported that they did not even speak to each other on the sets. So, Kaka & Jeetu decided to do something about it. They locked them up in the same room. But when they opened it after some time, they found both of then still sitting in the same place not speaking a word to each other.

There are host of villains - Prem Chopra, Kader Khan etc., It was sad to see Amjad Khan make a fool of himself. Songs were typical Bappi Lahiri style.

The film was a big hit with the masses & so it became a big hit.

It was just another addition to Kaka's list of films, nothing mote than that.

Ever Green Movie
basheer44725 July 2010
It is full 100% entertaining movie of 1984 Jeetendra heading the entire cast even opposite Ex Super Star Rajesh Khanna, Script is very attractive with lot of fun emotions actions, It has very big stars in it, Jeetendra, Rajesh Khanna, Waheed Rehman, Amjad Khan, Sri Devi, Jaya Prada,Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Kadar khan, Shakti Kapoor, Asrani & Shatrughan Sinha in a very special dynamic special appearance, I don't know why the legend GABBAR SINGH Amjad Khan has accepted this movie in a very comical way that insulted himself, from this movie Amjad Khan carrer falls & Kadar Khan rises, Rajesh Khanna wearing tight outfits & T shirts to look young but failed due to his over weight physique, He is a good actor but this kind of role doesn't suit to his age that time, Jaya Prada is opposite this time careless rich girl, while Sri Devi perform poor sensible girl role, Humour of Khadar Khan, Asrani & Amjad Khan are funny & make you laugh, It has all sort of ingredients Comedy,Actions, Dance, emotions, Almost the entire film shoots in Anna Poorna Studious, Prasad lab in Hyderabad. Performance wise Jeetu is in top as the script demanded, he undoubtedly deliver his best acting skills & get success too,Suresh Production which they suffer huge losses of their previous movie BANDISH Starring Rajesh Khanna, recover & earn a lot with this move

Maqsad - Superhit Blockbuster
shrikant-narayanan11 March 2011
Maqsad was the second highest grosser of the year 1984. K.Bappiah, after the box office success of film Bandish, kept insisting Rajesh Khanna do be part of at-least one multi star movie of his films and Khanna readily agreed to do this film. The producer D.Rama Naidu always gave the solo hero films requiring strong performance of the male lead to Rajesh Khanna when he remade his Telugu films by himself in Hindi.Maqsad was one among the only 15 multi hero projects which Khanna did(Rajesh has 99 solos and 15 multi of which 80 are superhits). The movie was the best of the three movies which childhood friends Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra did to together. All the songs pictured on Khanna and sung by Kishore were more popular than those which Kishore sang for Jeetendra in the film. The movie was remake of Mundadugu produced and directed by the same team of D Rama Naidu and Bappaiah. Amjad Khan plays as a comedian and the movie saw excellent acting abilities of Sridevi and Jaya Prada. As expected Rajesh Khanna steals the show from Jeetendra in the film.
