Longtime General Hospital cast member Steve Burton is leaving the ABC show due to his refusal to comply with the production’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate.
Burton confirmed his long-rumored departure on Instagram today. “I know there’s been a lot of rumors and speculations about me and General Hospital and I wanted you to hear it from me personally,” he says in the video. “Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate.”
Watch the video below.
Burton goes on to say he sought medical and religious exemptions to the mandate but was denied by the production on both counts. “Which, you know, hurts,” he says, “but this is also about personal freedom to me.” After expressing thanks to fans – noting that he practically grew up on the show – he says, “Maybe one day if these mandates are lifted, I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan.

Studiocanal is set to restore “Mandabi,” a classic movie directed by celebrated African filmmaker Ousmane Sembène in 4K, and will release it theatrically in spring 2021.
“Mandabi,” which is adapted from Sembène’s classic novel “Le Mandat,” won the Special Jury Prize at Venice in 1968.
The author-turned-filmmaker’s second directorial effort, “Mandabi” shot mainly in his native Wolof tongue and marked the first African-language film to be produced out of West Africa.
“Mandabi” covers subjects close to Sembène’s heart, including colonialism and post-colonial identity. Sembène, who has penned a dozen novels, is also the first African director to garner international recognition, and was the first African member of a jury in Cannes in 1967, following his directorial debut with “Black Girl.”
“Mandabi” is currently available on myCANAL and will receive a theatrical release in the U.K. in March 2021. The movie will then launch theatrically in France later in the year.

The Art of War director Christian Duguay has signed on to direct The Runelords for Franchise Pictures Story Island Entertainment, Origin Entertainment and Entertainment Business Group. The $80 million project -- the first of three films based on the novels by David Farland -- is scheduled to start principal photography in July in Prague. The project is described as an epic adventure set in the medieval world of Rofehaven. Franchise topper Elie Samaha is executive producing, with the company's Joseph Merhi handling producing chores alongside David Wolverton (who wrote the novels under the pen name David Farland), W. David McBrayer, Richard Shaw and Anne Marie Gillen. Published in 1997, Runelords was the first novel in Farland's series. Duguay has been nominated two times for an Emmy for his work on the small screen for Hitler: The Rise of Evil and Joan of Arc. His feature credits include The Assignment and Screamers.
