Thoughtful and enjoyable series
giffey-11 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have just started watching this series on the INSP Network, which I get through DISH Network. I actually started watching it because it followed "the Waltons" a series I have always enjoyed. Except for the era (1930's Depression" The two series would seem to have little in common. Wind At My Back is the story of the Bailey family, Honey and her husband had moved back to New Bedford, Ontario to open a hardware store and to be near Mrs. Bailey, the matriarch of the family. When Mr. Bailey dies, Honey's world is thrown into turmoil when Mrs. Bailey refuses to allow Honey to take Honey's two sons, Hub and Fat away from their grandmother. Honey takes a menial job in a laundry to save money to try to make a home for the boys. Fortunately, the family comes to a truce, and Honey is able to open a beauty parlor and move her and the boys to the hotel nearby. Love also comes to Honey in the guise of Max Sutton, a teacher. They get married and have a daughter of their own, and Mrs. Bailey comes to respect Honey for her honesty and hard work ethic and they become a loving family. This series shows a family and town in their struggle with the Depression, but handles it with warmth, love and laughter. An excellent series for the whole family to enjoy.

A great family series!
This is a great family tv series! Sullivan Entertainment always brings such beautiful stories to life. My family & I enjoyed watching and rewatching all the episodes. The acting is so well done! The characters become dear to your heart and some of the more stand-offish characters even grow on you. This is a great series about family and getting through tough times.

This is an excellent series!! Kevin Sullivan proves that he can make wonderful stories truly live. Set in the depression, this series gives you a real look into the hardships of this time period. The set is brought alive with an amazing story of a family who shows that their love and willingness towards each other can keep them together through trying times. The actors and actresses are also amazing and make this series what it is. I recommend this to everyone who wants to watch a story about love, hope, and strength. Great family series!

One terrific series!

This is probably one of the best TV series ever. Find it on whatever channel your area may carry it. The previous reviewer was totally correct in their review. One interesting thing that I wanted to say was that I bought the 2 books that the series is based on. Although I enjoyed them very much they have NOTHING to do with the show. Not one character is even the same. But they were fun reads. The time periods were the same for both the books and the series. I wish they would do a reunion movie on a regular basis. The Christmas movie was a pleasant surprise. Too bad most of the main cast was not available to be in it for whatever reason.

Loved this series so much!!

Having worked an afternoon shift for many years, I never watched the series until the last year. I was caught up in the story so quickly due to the fabulous acting by all the actors. I was born in the early thirties to family of six who went through many of the experiences in the story. We lived in a small town, went to a parochial school and saw our only brother off to war by train. Our greatest pleasure was playing outside with the neighborhood kids, swimming in the lake, and listening to the radio. Watching Wind At My Back is a very nostalgic experience. Many memories surfaced, both good ones and bad, which enabled me to work through some of the painful ones with a very different perspective. It felt as if the actors were my family and friends living in my neighborhood. I really miss this series and feel so proud that it was Canadian. I'd love to see a reunion of all these lovable actors. The whole crew did an outstanding job and I thank them so much for enriching my life.

I absolutely loved Wind At My Back. The characters are well developed and the storyline is believable and well executed. Seeing this era brought to life is a remarkable experience, not only in the detail of the town, clothing, cars, etc, but the remarkable actors brought the characters to life so beautifully. Wind At My Back hearkens back to a simpler time when life seemed less complicated but never allowing you to forget that it was a very difficult time. Sit back and enjoy this unique show, share the joys and heartaches of the characters and let yourself fall into the 1930's because you most certainly will. You won't be sorry you watched it. I only wish there were more.

Worthwhile watching

This is a wonderful series I've caught on INSP for the last 2 years. The acting is superb and the storyline, terrific. The main characters, Mae, her daughter Grace, and her daughter-in-law all portray wonderful character development over time. The children grow up before your eyes as well. It's heart-warming and full of vintage memories of very tough, yet good times - evoking similar stories my parents often told me of the Great Depression.

Light a fire in the fireplace on a cool autumn evening, sit back, put your feet up, and make the world go away for awhile; you won't be wasting your time.
