Kyle Chandler may be playing an iconic DC Comics character! Here’s why he’d be a good fit for Green Lantern Hal Jordan!
Most sadly associate Green Lantern with the 2011 movie starring Ryan Reynolds. The film was such a critical and box office bomb that it shifted the Dceu direction with Reynolds himself mocking it for years. It’s too bad, as the character is more than worthy of a film.
Introduced in 1959, Hal Jordan was a test pilot when his craft was pulled into the desert by an alien spacecraft. The pilot was Abin Sur, a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force. The dying Sur gave Hal his ring, which allowed him abilities such as flying while able to create solid green constructs of almost anything Hal could think of.
Hal used his powers well, founding the Justice League and aiding fellow Earth-based Lanterns John Stewart and Guy Gardner.

The revamped DC Universe under James Gunn is continuing to progress and add more star-studded members to its team, and it seems like Kyle Chandler will prove to be the latest addition to it. Famous for his pieces like the Friday Night Lights and Early Edition drama series, the 59-year-old actor is reportedly the new choice to embody Hal Jordan for the screens.

But of course, like nearly every other casting, the reports of Chandler joining Gunn’s superhero-verse is also earning some criticism for some rather absurd reasons. At the same time, hardcore fans of the saga, who genuinely expect this to be yet another perfect casting by Gunn, aren’t sitting quiet and have come out to defend Chandler’s casting in the Green Lantern series.

Miller has showrun the Hulu drama since its premiere in 2017. He will remain on staff as a writer and executive producer on Season 6 while moving on to focus on developing a screen adaptation “The Testaments,” the “Handmaid’s Tale” sequel that original author Margaret Atwood wrote in 2019.
Tuchman has extended his preexisting overall deal with MGM, which serves as the studio on the series. Along with “The Handmaid’s Tale,” he is best known for writing for the 1997 animated “Anastasia” movie and serving as showrunner on “Kyle Xy,” with other credits including Freeform’s “Stitchers,” the CW’s “Beauty and the Beast,” Syfy’s “Alphas” and “Eureka” and CBS’ “Early Edition” and “Dr. Quinn,...

Director Gary Nelson, whose credits include live-action Disney films like "The Black Hole" and the original "Freaky Friday," as well as numerous TV episodes, has died of natural causes at the age of 87. Nelson's son confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday that Nelson had passed away in his Las Vegas home several months ago, on May 25, 2022, though the news is only just now coming to light.
Nelson was born in Los Angeles on October 6, 1934, and he first came up in Hollywood as an assistant director. Among his earliest credits are the classic James Dean film "Rebel Without a Cause" and Joseph L. Mankiewicz's 1955 film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Guys and Dolls," both of which were nominated for multiple Academy Awards. He followed this up with further Ad work on two more Oscar-nominated Westerns, "The Searchers" and "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," before crossing over into television.

CBS has decided not to move forward with its gender-flipped “Early Edition” reboot project after completing the pilot, Variety has learned.
The original ’90s drama “Early Edition” starred Kyle Chandler as a man who magically received tomorrow’s edition of the Chicago Sun-Times today, delivered to his door each morning by a mysterious ginger tabby cat. His knowledge of the future then gave him the chance to change it for the better.
In the rebooted version, ambitious but uncompromising journalist Beth (Alice Eve) starts receiving tomorrow’s newspaper today. She then finds herself in the complicated business of changing the news instead of reporting it.
Beth is further described as the executive producer of Ksea, a local Seattle TV news station. A journalist/investigative reporter since she was a kid, Beth is very focused on getting the story no matter what, which sometimes puts her at odds with her beloved mentor,...

We are 10 days away from the start of the traditional upfront week and a day into the new series pickup window, which kicked off yesterday with NBC’s order to the Quantum Leap pilot. Getting intel on broadcast pilots is harder than ever as that marketplace has contracted over the last five years but here is what I hear as we head into pre-upfront week. You can use for reference the Early Pilot Buzz report Deadline ran on Monday.
At ABC, the The Rookie planted spinoff starring Niecy Nash and the Alaska project drama pilot, starring Hilary Swank, remain very strong contenders, with the L.A. Law sequel, headlined by Blair Underwood, getting some traction, mostly due to the attractive marketing opportunities its iconic IP presents. Comedy pilot Not Dead Yet, starring Gina Rodrigues, also has been gaining some support at the network, I hear.
Still not a lot of clarity at CBS. Firefighter drama Cal Fire continues to look like a frontrunner. Beyond that, cop drama East New York also is said to be solid, with the Mother & Son legal drama believed to in the mix too. The Early Edition reboot has cooled off a bit, while True Lies continues to divide opinions but sources see a possible path to the air based on its popular IP and potentially advantageous dealmaking.
On the comedy side, presentation Hug Machine and pilot Rust Belt News continue to garner buzz.
2022 CBS Pilots & Series Orders
NBC yesterday became the first network to pick up a pilot to series, giving a series order to Quantum Leap, which had been considered a strong contender and was the only drama pilot in consideration for fall. As Deadline reported, the pilot is expected to undergo some reshoots and is eyed for the post-Voice slot. There had been chatter that NBC may expedite post-production on its other drama pilots that are in advanced stages Unbroken and Blank Slate, for fall consideration, but that does not appear to be the case. The other ordered NBC drama pilots are being produced off-cycle.
NBC’s two comedy pilots, Lopez vs. Lopez and Hungry, remain neck and neck, with Lopez vs. Lopez, a collaboration between George Lopez and his daughter, still believed to have a slight edge.
2022 NBC Pilots & Series Orders
Fox
Two projects that had been put on a script-to-series track, John Eisendrath’s procedural drama Alert and Steve Yockey’s meteorologist comedy Cindy Snow, continue to build momentum and look likely to go to series, The network’s only pilot ordered during the 2022 pilot window this year, an Untitled Michelle Nader comedy presentation, also remains a strong contender for a series pickup.
The CW’s three pilots this season — all based on underlying IP — remain strong contenders as the cuts start to come in: Supernatural prequel The Winchesters, Walker origin story Walker: Independence and Gotham Knights. Because of their pedigree, solid execution and the fact that this is half the number of pilots the CW has normally picked up over the past decade, I hear there is a possibility for all of them to go to series.
As we reported earlier this week, Walker: Independence is described as a sprawling Western, The Winchesters as the strongest attempt at a Supernatural spinoff to date, and Gotham Kings as another solid DC pilot from Berlanti Prods., which also has plenty of easter eggs to attract Batman fans. (Gotham Kings‘ prospects also were improved significantly by the recent cancellations of Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow.)
So far, it does not look that Nexstar’s pending acquisition of a majority stake in the CW would close before the upfronts but even if that does not happen, the network remains disciplined in its choices with fewer scripted series expected to be on deck for next season than in recent years.

With just two months to go before networks unveil their fall TV offerings to Madison Avenue during their annual upfronts presentations, broadcast pilot orders have fallen to perhaps the lowest level in decades. Fox isn’t even producing a pilot at this point, having passed on the only one it had in contention.
So far, the five broadcast networks have ordered 35 pilots — some of them holdovers from last season. High-profile projects involving “This Is Us” stars, a Hilary Swank offering and a sequel to “Quantum Leap” are among the mix, but the tally is running more than 20% behind the 45 broadcast pilot orders last year and well below the 60 ordered in 2020.
Even allowing for projects that have been ordered straight to series — such as David E. Kelley’s upcoming “Avalon” murder mystery for ABC — that’s a notable drop. And the pandemic is only partly to blame.

The "Early Edition" reboot pilot at CBS has found its lead in "Freelancers" and "Star Trek: Into Darkness" star Alice Eve. According to Variety, the actress will star in the series as an intrepid journalist who magically gets tomorrow's news delivered today. The original version of the series followed Kyle Chandler ("Friday Night Lights") as a man who had the next day's edition of the Chicago Sun-Times delivered to him by a mysterious cat, but there's no word on whether or not the reboot will also feature a fantastical feline friend.

Alice Eve has landed the lead role in CBS’ reboot of “Early Edition,” TheWrap has learned.
Eve will play Beth, the Executive Producer of local Seattle TV news station Ksea. As an investigative reporter, Beth is ruthless when it comes to getting the story, which sometimes puts her at odds with her beloved mentor, Tommy, who believes that the most important thing about a story is the people and its human toll.

“Tonight is not about Yeezus. It’s about Jesus,” said DeVon Franklin, the TV and film producer, bestselling author and VP of the Motion Picture Academy’s board of governors, introducing a panel at NeueHouse in Hollywood this week. It was both, of course, as the event he was leading was sponsored by Netflix and at least ostensibly in the service of promoting discussion about “Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy,” the three-part documentary about hip-hop titan Kanye West that just rolled out over three weeks on the streaming service. Franklin wasn’t being misleading, though: Yahweh mentions did at least slightly beat out Ye shout-outs during the two-hour discussion, although there was no mistaking that the promise of discussing pop culture’s most polarizing figure was the chief lure for the members of L.A.’s Black church community that primarily made up the full house.

“Call Me Kat” actress Schuyler Helford’s teen-parenting comedy “Unplanned in Akron” has received a pilot order at CBS.
Written by Helford with Emily Wilson (“The Conners”) supervising, the multi-cam project follows two teenagers navigating parenthood in the best way they know how. CBS is moving on to its comedy pilots.
The network has ordered a pilot for Rust Belt News, a single-camera comedy from The Simpsons writer and The Mindy Project exec producer Matt Warburton.
The project is set in a small Ohio town where the local newspaper goes out of business, leaving the ambitious, angsty reporters of the high school newspaper as the only people left to report on scandals, dig up corruption, and generally polish the rust off this rust-belt community.
Warburton, who also worked with Mindy Kaling on a number of series including Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls, will write and exec produce. Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will also exec produce the comedy, which comes from Warner Bros Television.
The pilot order comes after Alloy founder Morgenstein renewed his deal at the studio and promoted longtime head of television Girolamo to EVP.

The series follows Regina Haywood, the newly promoted police captain of East New York, an impoverished, working class neighborhood at the eastern edge of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives, some of whom are reluctant to deploy her creative methods of serving and protecting during the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.
