Ang Lee is an Oscar-winning filmmaker who has worked in a variety of genres and styles to explore the lives of people around the globe. Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in Taiwan in 1954, Lee’s interest in film brought him to NYU’s graduate program, where he worked as a crew member on classmate Spike Lee‘s thesis project, “Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads.” He directed his first feature, “Pushing Hands” (1991) at the age of 37.
Lee followed up his debut with back-to-back international successes, each one scoring Oscar nominations as Best Foreign Language Film: “The Wedding Banquet” (1993) and “Eat Drink Man Woman” (1994). In both films, the director explored the kinds of complex familial relationships that would animate many of his stories.
He was then drafted by Hollywood to helm the Jane Austin adaptation “Sense and Sensibility” (1995), which...

Seth MacFarlane's animated sitcom "Family Guy" debuted in 1999 as, effectively, a crass redux of "The Simpsons." This was a telling development in popular culture, as "The Simpsons," which debuted a full decade earlier, was seen as the crass redux of most traditional sitcoms. The below-average boob Homer Simpson (Dan Castellaneta) was replaced by the boorish moron Peter Griffin (MacFarlane). "The Simpsons" often presented juvenile humor, but was clearly made by smart people who liked to slip high-end literary and scientific references into their scripts. "Family Guy," in contrast, well full-bore fratboy, leaning heavily into tasteless (and darkly funny) jokes about sexual assault, racism, and celebrity culture. "Family Guy" pivoted on pop culture references, specifically remembered by those born in the mid-1970s.
"Family Guy" also aged up its child characters. On "The Simpsons," Bart (Nancy Cartwright) and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) were 10 and 8 respectively. On "Family Guy," Chris (Seth Green...

The childhood stars of the series 7th Heaven, Beverly Mitchell, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman, are now denouncing their former television father’s alleged sexual misconduct in a new podcast.
Three months after launching their podcast Catching Up With the Camdens, the cast members have returned to rewatch their show, and they begin by sharing their thoughts on old co-star Stephen Collins.
In acknowledging Collins’ behavior, Gallagher led the podcast by saying, “All forms of abuse — sexual abuse of any kind — it’s inexcusable. And victims of abuse need to be shown compassion, and they should be given support.”

Stephen Collins’ fall from grace happened ten years ago when the Dad from 7th Heaven found himself the subject of a slew of accusations, almost 40 years after the matter. The actor would go on to talk to People Magazine, before sitting down with Yahoo to discuss his sexual misconduct.

Now, almost ten years later, as Stephen Collins has largely been absent from the public consciousness, the actor has resurfaced in what is reported to be Iowa. This would mark the actor’s first appearance in a long time, given that Collins would take to some of entertainment journalism’s biggest names to clear the nature of his misconduct, which was heavily speculated on. It came from a recorded therapy session which was captured without Collins or his therapist’s knowledge.

Before some of the cast members of 7th Heaven look back on filming the show in a rewatch podcast, they took a moment to address the elephant in the room.
Prior to starting their episode for their Catching Up With The Camdens podcast, Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher and Mackenzie Rosman, known for their roles of Lucy, Simon and Ruthie, respectively on the series talked about the “inappropriate sexual conduct” their former TV dad, Stephen Collins, previously confessed to.
“We want you to know that we see all of your comments and we know how excited you all are for the rewatch so that’s exactly what we’re going to do, but before we get into that we do think it’s important that we say something about Stephen Collins,” Mitchell said.
Gallagher added, “All forms of abuse, sexual abuse of any kind, it’s inexcusable. And victims of abuse need to be shown compassion,...

Eddie Murphy’s love of Star Trek is well-known. Not only did he give the franchise a shout-out in one of his classic bits from Eddie Murphy: Delirious, but in the movie Boomerang, he uses an episode (Arena) to help seduce Halle Berry’s character. Given that Eddie Murphy worked exclusively for Paramount Pictures in the 1980s, it’s no surprise that the powers that be at the studio briefly considered giving him a role in one of the films.
Indeed, it almost happened with Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Released in 1986, which was arguably the height of Eddie Murphy’s fame, the film sees the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise travelling back in time to 1986 San Francisco to collect a humpback whale they can use to communicate with a probe that threatens to destroy earth in the 23rd century. Heartbreak comes frequently for Friday the 13th fans. The franchise has had a rough ride over the last couple decades, getting bogged down in legal issues and creative false stars. We get a video game, then the rug is pulled out from under it when it’s just getting started. A movie almost happens, then gets scrapped just weeks before filming was scheduled to begin. The Crystal Lake TV show was just a couple months from filming, then the showrunner gets fired. But worse than all of that is the fact that we’re in a time when actors from our beloved films are passing away very often. Just last month, we lost Erich Anderson, who was in the cast of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Now Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI director Tom McLoughlin has broken the news that Whitney Rydbeck, who played the ill-fated paintball player Roy in his film,...

Some as comic partners on stage and film, others on projects I wrote and directed. I specifically wrote the Roy part in Jason Lives for him knowing his unique talent. Former Fox Broadcasting Network Chief Operating Officer Jamie Kellner. (Still frame via C-span broadcast)
Jamie Kellner, one of the most-influential broadcast television executives of the late 20th century who oversaw the development and launch of two upstart networks, died last Friday at the age of 77. The cause of death was attributed to cancer.
Kellner served as the first President and Chief Operating Officer at the Fox Broadcast Network in the mid-1980s, orchestrating the build-out of Fox’s programming slate and helping it secure distribution on over-the-air stations in key markets and cable platforms in hard-to-reach corners of the country.
Kellner helped champion programming like “In Living Color,” “Married…with Children,” “21 Jump Street” and “The Simpsons” and “Cops,” which help set the tone for American television across two decades. He left Fox for the WB Network in 1993, which operated as a joint venture between Warner Bros Television and Tribune Broadcasting.

Jamie Kellner, the charismatic and crafty executive who expanded the broadcast television landscape by helping hatch the Fox and WB networks in 1987 and 1995, respectively, had died. He was 77.
Kellner died Friday at his Montecito, California, home after a battle with cancer, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
While still riding high atop The WB, Kellner in March 2001 was given additional responsibilities overseeing TBS, TNT and CNN as chairman and CEO of Time Warner sister company Turner Broadcasting System. But he was at that for just two years, before he retired and served out the remainder of his contract back in Burbank.
Meanwhile, Kellner was chairman of the station ownership group Acme Communications — named after the company in the Road Runner cartoons at Warner Bros. — from its launch in 1997 until it was liquidated in 2016. He was the rare network TV exec who also had a hand in the station business; Acme’s first nine stations,...

Jamie Kellner, who made his name as the only exec ever to create two broadcast networks — Fox and The WB (both of which also achieved profitability under his watch), died Friday at his home in Montecito, Calif. He was 77. The tight-knit crew at Ktla got some more tough news this week with the revelation that the station’s longtime weatherman, Mark Kriski, has suffered a mild stroke. The news comes after station staff were devastated by the news earlier this month that beloved entertainment reporter Sam Rubin had died of a heart attack.
In a post to social media Ktla said Kriski’s stroke had happened earlier this week, but noted that “he’s in good spirits…and looks forward to being back with the team soon.”
The station also made a brief announcement on air about his condition.
Kriski’s wife told TMZ that he had the stroke early Monday and was hospitalized.
He joined the Ktla Morning News in 1991 and, according to his official bio, is “one of the last-remaining original ‘characters’ from the show’s inception.” He is a nine-time Emmy winner, has appeared as a...

Jessica Biel – Says Her Production Company Saw Little To No Success During Its First Ten Years Of Operation
Even as a successful actress, finding success for the production company she co-founded with business partner Michelle Purple, Iron Ocean, was a 20 year process. In fact it was so hard for Biel sometimes that she thought of quiting the whole thing altogether.

Man's Castle.“When you’re dead, you get a hunk of earth. When you’re alive, all you’ve got is that hunk of blue.” This is how Bill (Spencer Tracy), the restless hero of Frank Borzage’s Man’s Castle (1933), explains his insistence on sleeping under the open sky. Borzage’s films always cast their eyes heavenward with exalted sincerity; they offer no sop to modern irony or cynicism. These magical playhouses are spaces of care and refuge as much as dreamy eroticism; in Man’s Castle,...

“My wonderful mother passed away peacefully at 5:28 this evening. The 10 Things I Hate About You cast probably didn’t know it then, but the actors in the 1999 teen rom-com would get their breakout role. In the 25 years since its release, 10 Things I Hate About You has become a cult classic and a career highlight for its actors.
On the surface, 10 Things I Hate About You doesn’t sound like a recipe for success. A William Shakespeare play reworked into a teen comedy featuring a cast of mostly unknown actors? Critics didn’t fall head over heels for it in 1999, but the movie’s appeal has grown over time and attracted new generations of fans (even if sequel plans failed). And if the 10 Things I Hate About You cast was unknown then, now there is no mistaking the talent of stars like Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Since 2020, the Oscar for Best Actress has exclusively gone to performers with more than 80 minutes of screen time in their respective films. These especially lengthy recent turns account for about one-fifth of the winning ones that have ever hit that benchmark in the 96-year history of the category. Scroll through our photo gallery to find out which 10 Best Actress-winning performances are the longest of all time.
This countdown is presented in terms of physical screen time, meaning any time an actress can actually be seen on screen or heard off screen. Moments involving silent and non-visible scene presence do not apply here. All 99 of this category’s winning performances were able to be counted, including the three that earned Janet Gaynor (“7th Heaven”; “Street Angel”; “Sunrise”) the inaugural prize in 1929 and the two from Katharine Hepburn (“The Lion in Winter”) and Barbra Streisand (“Funny Girl”) that tied for the 1969 honor.

At the inaugural Academy Awards in 1929, native Pennsylvanian Janet Gaynor made history as the first American-born performer to win an Oscar by taking the Best Actress prize for her body of work in “7th Heaven,” “Street Angel,” and “Sunrise.” Over the subsequent 95 years, 215 more thespians originating from the United States won the academy’s favor, meaning the country has now produced 68.1% of all individual acting Oscar recipients. Considering the last decade alone, the rate of such winners is even higher, at 70.3%.
At this point, 96.8% of American-born acting Oscar victors have hailed from one of 34 actual states. Of those constituting the remainder, three originated from the federal District of Columbia, while four were born in the territory of Puerto Rico. New York (home to 49 winners) is the most common birth state among the entire group, followed by California (34), Illinois (13), Massachusetts (11), and Pennsylvania (11).
