Sex & Nudity

  • Mowgli wears a loincloth.
  • Mostly kissing scenes but nothing offensive.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is shot in the leg by accident.
  • Mowgli accidentally hits Dr. Plumford in the face with a tilting mirror upon being spooked by his own reflection. Played for laughs.
  • This movie is quite violent for a PG movie. Throughout the movie there are both animal attacks and human violence.
  • A man falls down dead, and his face lands right in front of the camera (you do not see him die, and there is no blood, but it is still disturbing).
  • A man is seen dead, with bloody lacerations on his face and arm from a tiger attack (brief, but graphic).
  • There is a scene where a giant snake attacks Mowgli, but he stabs it with a knife and a lot of blood is seen.
  • A man is beaten.
  • Boone fights Mowgli the first and final times they see each other, but Mowgli defends himself both times, particularly in a violent manner during the last battle in the treasure room near the end.

Profanity

  • Mild language, most use of damn, hell and bloody.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some characters are seen smoking and drinking.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One of Boone's friends is a tall and rather intimidating-looking man who some younger viewers may find unsettling.
  • Much darker and scarier than the original 1967 film and even the 2016 film, and would have gained a PG-13 rating for today's standards.
  • A lot of disturbing/intense scenes, several where a tiger kills people onscreen and the snake can be very scary for younger viewers.
  • A bear is shot off-screen, and a man cries while attempting to comfort the animal, then runs through the jungle in distress. Very sad and intense.
  • In one scene, Mowgli enters a trophy room with countless mounted animal heads. As he looks at each one, the viewer hears the animal's various screams. A very intense sequence.
  • Several deaths occur onscreen; a few are graphic, with blood (not overly graphic, but enough to really push the PG rating).

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • While on top of a cliff, Mowgli is attacked by a man and they struggle with the man striking Mowgli many times. He eventually overpowers Mowgli and then tries to crush him with a rock, only for Mowgli to kick him in the groin, causing the man to fall to his death (we see him fall and then hear a loud thud).
  • A man is mauled by Shere Khan. The tiger chases and eventually pounces on him, they struggle briefly before the camera cuts away. (Nothing too explicit is shown, though we hear the man screaming in agony)
  • The man who was shot in the leg earlier is buried in salt and some of it gets into his gunshot wound.
  • A character is killed (off-camera) by a huge snake.
  • A man is slowly sucked into quicksand.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The main villain, Boone, has a particularly disturbing death. He falls into water after seeing Kaa, the python. As he tries to free himself, he notices all of the skulls of men that Kaa has killed before. As with the trophy room scene, the person's dying scream is heard as their skull is shown. Boone himself screams, and then is devoured by Kaa. Very scary.
