Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • A woman washes her face with what she thinks is water, but is in fact acid. Her face burns, exposing an empty eye socket, raw flesh, and part of her skull. She screams in pain before she expires. Gruesome.
  • A man has a drink that has been poisoned. He has a violent, choking reaction and dies.
  • A woman is found garroted, with the murder weapon still wrapped around her neck and both eyes bulging from their sockets.
  • An elderly man suffers a sudden heart attack from shock. We later learn that he has died offscreen.
  • A man is discovered dead, his corpse hanging from a noose.
  • A man is hacked to death with a medieval axe, mostly played out in shadow. The blade is caked with blood and hair.
  • A physical fight between two characters, one of whom falls down a flight of stairs carrying an axe. The axe becomes embedded in his chest, with blood, and he dies.
  • ***It is discovered in the film's finale that everything was being staged by a third party character, and none of the film's players have actually died. The staged murder scenes depicted are still fairly intense.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Scene where characters enter another, supposedly insane character's locked room, and find horrifying artifacts and discoveries (a maggot infested doll, frightening scratches) The scene climaxes with a skeletal corpse falling from the ceiling, apparently dead from suicide.
  • A seemingly sophisticated, urbane character is revealed to be completely insane, having murdered the previous characters. They then attack the heroes with an axe.
  • ***In the finale, we learn that all of the night's proceedings have been an act, performed by actors and staged by a third party. We then learn that this reveal itself is a fabrication, a story written by the main protagonist. Despite the comical nature of the ending, the murder set pieces are still violently depicted, and the twists themselves can be startling.
  • A villainous character's depravity is discussed extensively by the other characters. It is detailed how he impregnated a local girl as a youth, and then murdered the girl and their unborn child. They mention he "slit her belly". Disturbing.
