KUNG FU MASTER NAMED DRUNK CAT is a weird little kung fu comedy with a contemporary setting. The bad guys are a gang of master criminals on the hunt for some stolen diamonds which have been hidden in a series of unlikely places, including a sweet jar. The heroes are a top fighter and his bride to be who mix it up with various allies in what amounts to a running chase between good and bad.
The film makes much of Simon Yuen's presence as the titular character, although truth be told he doesn't get a lot of screen time here other than a few show-off scenes. It's interesting to see him in his natural bald state instead of his usual bewigged attire. The action scenes in this film are adequately staged, but the comedy is rather offbeat and the film is just plain strange at times. One of the villains has a massive cyst on his neck which is rather repulsive, although there's a twist in store. My favourite part involves veteran cross-eyed actor Tau Wan Yue who has some great and funny scenes as an idiotic henchman.
