Inflatable Egos & Such
ccthemovieman-125 April 2007
The Pink Panther motor scooters down to "Biceps Beach (in reality - it's Venice Beach near Los Angeles in the late '60s where all the bodybuilders would hang out and lift weights, get a tan, pose and just hang out with friends.)

In here, the first muscle man is a real vanity case, posing in front of a group of admiring females, trying to impress them. The PP puts on his sweatshirt and inflates it to where instantly he is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Our hero even has inflatable barbells!!

The rest of the story is a demonstrated of the amazing inflatable objects the Pink Panther has in his satchel. He can produce anything and some of it winds up some real, some are just blowup objects. It's the usual bizarre visuals and the Panther and Mr. Muscles duel it out.

There are so many jokes in five minutes here you can't have all winners but mostly it's clever and fun to watch, most of the gags successful. The best stuff, I thought, was in the beginning leading up to the Panther's surfing exploits. In all, typical PP lunacy.

This short has a similar theme in common with an Eastern European short entitled Ersatz
llltdesq11 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This short reminds me strongly of a short which won an Oscar a number of years before-it was an Eastern European short, Ersatz is its title in English, Surogat is its original title. While Ersatz is a more effective short, this has its own charms as well. I will be discussing details, so consider this a spoiler warning:

The Pink Panther goes to the beach with a satchel full of inflatable items of various types, including a muscle suit and barbell. He proceeds to upstage a muscle boy, who then becomes his opponent. It's always interesting when the Pink Panther has an adversary other than the "Little White Guy", as he was called at the studio, because the Panther usually does things which are a bit less predictable to them.

The gags generally fall into a category here-it's the "Muscle boy gets upstaged, gets angry and does something that precipitates his own downfall". There are no sympathetic qualities here for the muscle boy. Even the ultimate comeuppance is his own fault.

The ending is quite enjoyable and this is a very entertaining short. If you like this one, by all means, look for a copy of Ersatz. Recommended.

The Pink Panther goes to the beach
TheLittleSongbird14 August 2013
A somewhat routine set-up but still very entertaining all the same. The gags are very well done and well-timed, though a couple are on the familiar side. The first two minutes and the ending fare the best. Come On In, the Water's Pink- just love the title, one of the most imaginatively worded titles of any Pink Panther cartoon- moves very quickly, so while what happens is not much of a surprise it still engages. The animation is lusciously coloured and clearly drawn with a lot of care, most notable is how the beach is animated, definitely the sort of beach that you would love to spend the day at. The music still has its appealing style with catchy orchestration and a timelessly infectious theme tune. The characters work very well together, Pinky carries the cartoon with no problem at all- very funny, likable and the epitome of cool- and the Muscle man is a good foil. In conclusion, not one of the best but very good stuff. Worth checking out definitely. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Pink Panther vs. "Muscle-man"
Atreyu_II16 September 2007
"Come On In! The Water's Pink" is a very amusing and entertaining animated short.

At my point of view, the Pink Panther's cartoons aren't just classics. They always have funny, original and attractive titles, which proves that creativity is also on titles and it isn't any different on this one. The word "Pink" is always on the titles, another prove of how clever these titles are.

This is, without a doubt, a mini-Summer blockbuster. I am naturally joking.

The story is naturally humorous: it's Summertime and the Pink Panther decides to go to the beach (Bicep Beach) on his motorcycle. A muscle-man is calling the girls's attention by showing his abilities. However, the Pink Panther brings with him inflatable items and uses them. This drives the muscle-man jealous and that's when all the humor starts. Crazy and hilarious things happen during these minutes.

By the way, the beach where this animated short takes place seems to be very nice and quite beautiful, with golden sand and everything. It sure is a perfect beach.

Like most of Pinky's classics, this is another one which deserves to be part of these cartoon's collection.

Pink Panther hilariously proves he is stronger than the hunk.
OllieSuave-00728 June 2016
The Pink Panther visits Bicep Beach, where a muscle hunk is showing off his muscles, and ego, to a bunch of beach girls. As with any imaginative cartoon magic, Pink Panther uses a bagful of inflatable items to ready himself at the beach, including muscles, weights, a swimming pool, water skis, and balloon animals. He also uses these items to divert the girls' attention to him. What results is a hilarious guy on panther duel as the muscle hunk tries to take back his status on the beach. But, the panther proves that wit is stronger than muscles, as he cleverly outsmarts the muscleman a number of times, including making him dive in an empty pool!

No dialog here - just lots of slapstick action, witty charm and a clever script. Funny stuff!

The Water Was Not Pink
CuriosityKilledShawn25 March 2016
Pinky goes to a muscle beach (on a scooter, but leaves on foot, strangely) and affronts the local tough guy by outperforming him in various athletic feats, which pleases the dames and floozies. The beach tough doesn't take well to this and tries, and fails, to get revenge on the nonchalant Pinky.

It's slightly funny, but many of the jokes and pratfalls don't really make sense and are not clever. It's very lazy stuff and I can't imagine any of this making an impression on modern audiences. When it comes to classic cartoons the Pink Panther is very far behind his Looney Tunes and Disney peers.

As usual the title makes absolutely no sense.

This picture is from the "anything goes" 1960's . . .
pixrox119 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
. . . when all manner of moral turpitude and depravity swept around the globe like an underworld scourge. COME ON IN! THE WATER'S PINK frequently depicts scantily clad female figures in so-called "bikini" swimwear. Bikinis originated on the Bikini Atoll during the summer of 5608 BC. Inhabitants there did not know any better, and this sort of feminine covering actually was an improvement on the previous fashion, which involved distaff residents parading around in the altogether. However, when such sunburn-inviting get-up came back into fashion during the second half of the 1900's, it was more of a decadent than a retro phenomenon. Luckily the presence of children kept the Pink Panther from stooping to the m-o-n-o-k-i-n-i.
