Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Sam is called away to war before he and Jennie can take their honeymoon. When he returns, Charlie sets up a makeshift "suite" so the couple can have their wedding night. The groom carries the bride into the bedroom and she closes the door, eliciting curious glances from their relatives. Extremely mild.
  • Before Ann is murdered, she is pursued by the about three scavengers and runs into a room to hide. Her pursuers are shown stalking up the stairs, and then the scene cuts away. That implies a brutal gang rape, as she is reported later to have been murdered.

Violence & Gore

  • A main character is stabbed in the stomach. Very shocking and gut-wrenching, but not graphic.
  • Several main characters including two of the main character's sons and his daughter in law are murdered.
  • The main character begins to strangle the sentry who killed Jacob but,in a very emotional scene, stops himself and causes the sentry who is only sixteen to weep in guilt
