- The scene with the singing trees in the Forest of No Return might frighten very small children, but it is actually very mild.
- A toymaking machine overloads and explodes, but this scene is partly played for laughs.

- Nothing that would seriously scare children. Tom is hit on the head once by Gonzorgo and Rodrigo with a giant mallet in order to knock him out prior to his "kidnapping", but the moment is played for laughs. Instead of falling down flat, Tom merely drops to his knees holding Mary's flower with a goofy smile on his face, as imaginary birds spin around his head tweeting (literally tweeting, that is). Much later, Barnaby shrinks Tom, the Toymaker, and his own henchmen (who have turned against him) down to toy size with what is called a "Poof Gun" in the film, a device that squirts out a liquid used to shrink objects to toy size. Barnaby easily wipes out Tom's entire toy army with toy cannons, etc. Then, as he is about to make Tom literally disappear with another dose of liquid, Mary fires a toy cannon at the Poof Gun, whereupon the liquid splatters on Barnaby, who, as a result is also shrunk to toy size, after which he and Tom engage in a duel with swords. Tom uses a toy sword and Barnaby uses the blade of his cane, which has gotten shrunk along with him. But since both men are now toy size, their weapons now have the same effect that a real, normal-sized weapon would have. Barnaby cheats several times during the fight, attacking Tom with other toys and nearly killing him. Finally, the two climb some building blocks and duel there. Tom knocks the sword out of Barnaby's hand and apparently stabs him (some believe that he simply pushes Barnaby with the blade of his sword). With a scream, Barnaby falls off the blocks and into a toy chest, which shuts itself from the impact of the fall. He is never seen again in the film. Stills exist showing Barnaby locked in the same birdcage in which he earlier imprisoned Tom, but if a scene like this was filmed, it must have been edited out before release. Comic book tie-ins of the film also had Barnaby locked in the birdcage at the end, and in the comic book, Tom did not stab Barnaby; he merely tripped and fell into the toy chest. The film as released, however, seems to imply that Tom has killed Barnaby in the duel.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
- Mary cries a little when she thinks Tom has drowned but no drowning is ever shown, and the scene really isn't scary, because Barnaby's henchmen sell the live Tom to a gypsy camp instead.
