The young village teacher Vasiliy Ilyich Radetskiy, not convicted for the war, enters into a fictitious marriage with Katya, a relative of the repressed military leader, and takes her to the village, saving her from arrest, along with the girl, the daughter of the military leader, whom they adopted. Katya fell in love with Vasiliy, their marriage became historic. The war began, Radetskiy went to the front, the pregnant Katya suffered many troubles in the occupation, her child died, but she managed to save her adopted daughter.
