In the event of capsizing ship, grab the Judy Landers
14 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We get some location footage here on the actual ship. At one point in the episode, there's a slow dissolve to waves. You know what that means. (Ask your Priest if you don't.) David Doyle is best known for Charlie's Angels (Aaron Spelling & ABC.) (Charlie's Angels gets a shout out in this episode.) I've also seen him on Match Game. Here, he's playing a super playboy, which is, uh, curious casting. Speaking of Match Game - it's Bret Somers! She needs no introduction because as I've often said, Match Game is really the center of my Pop Culture Universe (which makes The Love Boat an important adjacent branch.) Her friend is played by Jo Ann Pflug. She was ALSO on Match Game. She's also known for being married to Chuck Woolery. Judy Landers finally shows up. The dumb blonde is actually an interesting type of character, which of course you can't do anymore. You can't say Judy is bad at playing the role. Captain Stubing's godson shows up. (We've already had his nephew.) He's played by the impossibly handsome Grant Goodeve. This honeymooner subplot is kind of dull. Marty Ingels and Sonny Bono are brothers. The latter is practicing his slip and falls. 'Have you seen anything you can fall over?' Marty asks, as Sonny oogles Judy Landers. He slips. She runs off to show her concern. Cher's got nothing on this. Bouncy, bouncy, bouncy. Ain't this the life? You think I'm giving this a low score? On Kafka's Love Boat scale, this episode gets 3 * out of a possible 4 *.
