Review of Aftersun

Aftersun (II) (2022)
6/10
Tender But Muted Storytelling
21 January 2024
I'd seen quite and hear quite a bit about Aftersun and decided to finally check it out for myself. The two leads here are both excellent, in particular Mezcal gives a wonderful performance. The style and pace of this Aftersun does gibe it an intimate, nostalgic feel to it which matches well with the specific story. There's nothing really wrong with the story except that for me it didn't accumulate to all that much for me. It was solid and pleasant and clearly touched many viewers but for me it didn't have that same impact. For me this is most felt with the films ending, which for me was a bit ambiguous and vague. Yes, it's a OK little film, but for that's that's about all.
