Surprisingly Accurate Depiction of Room Temperature IQs
23 September 2023
An entire group of people who suffered childhood lead poisoning or traumatic head injury before reaching adulthood also probably didn't go past the 8th grade and are about as articulate as wild animals. It's kind of excruciating to watch because it's so accurate as a depiction of people who are legitimately both stupid and ignorant, and also a little bit crazy. The sort of people who actually populated these kinds of backwaters well into the 80s and 90s, and surely occasionally still make an appearance in Arkansas or West Virginia.

The viewer wonders why this quiet, unintelligent but pretty and young woman would settle for a job in the middle of nowhere with some gross old man and his screaming pigs, who verbally abuses her and threatens her within less than 24 hours of her arrival. Of course the mystery is revealed a little later in the film and it all starts to fit together.

This is strong for what it is, a kind of mediocre predecessor to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
