I'm honestly surprised to see a very low score for this movie. So I feel like I need to talk a bit in it's favour.
The first thing you need to know is that this isn't an average horror movie, I would cosider it more of a drama. It does turn scary, but not in the supernatural, demon theme you might think it is.
In fact, all horror scenes that are supposed to scare you, are pretty standard and predictable. But that's because they're not real. They're delusions within the mind of a traumatized, young girl.
We see the plot through her eyes and her paranoia. And it takes the form of typical scary elements present in media a young girl would consume. (I'm not entirely sure of this, but I must say if it was on purpose, it's brilliant).
What I'm sure is, there are no spectres in this movie, just a tortured little girl hurting herself. The true villains are her terrible friends and religious fanatics in her life. And I think the movie does a wonderful job from this point of view.
