We knew that war is ghastly. Now we find that it's also ghostly.

Warning: Spoilers
A group of army soldiers on combat training in the woods becomes the intended victims of some evil spirits from the civil war, slaughtered by the north and now seeking vengeance. A prologue gives the viewer enough information to get the back story, and when officer Nichelle Nichols and her troop (which includes a young Maxwell Caulfield) get there, strange occurances begin, leading to the revelation of a fiery pit and even the accidental shooting of fellow recruits.

Definitely one of the spookier thrillers of the 80's and one of the best premises, this may be cheaply made, but cheap doesn't indicate not well planned. The ghost story definitely gives the undead a bit of sympathy even though their methods of revenge does turn them evil. Good visuals and a sparky performance by "Star Trek" vet Nichols whose officer may be tough and no nonsense, but still with the survival of her troop as first priority. This one's surprisingly quite memorable.
