Perfectly fine
15 May 2023
Murder Mystery isn't as smart or meta as it thinks it is but it remains a perfectly fine, predictable comedy that never has a truly memorable laugh but plenty of good chuckles and is an enjoyable way to pass 90 or so minutes with some well matched stars clearly enjoying their luxurious holiday.

It proves that when they're not an auteur passion project with way too much money, Netflix films are at their best as solid 3 star formulaic entertainment rather those excessively budgeted bland blockbusters desperately trying to kick off a cinematic universe that no one asked for.

Adam Sandler are Jennifer Aniston are fine, neither one breaking new ground but they clearly get along and bounce off each other well. The supporting cast is massively overqualified for these roles but Adeel Akhtar is the only one able to leave a lasting impression and has the best jokes of the film.

Kyle Newacheck's direction is competent, the film does look like a TV show for the most part but the on location photography is nice. There's also a last minute car chase that's surprisingly strong and is way better than the some of the ones in the bigger budgeted Netflix films, which is kinda depressing.
