10/10
Absolutely Brilliant on all Levels
13 May 2023
For some reason, I just haven't had access to stream this movie since it's release. I rarely go to theatres so missed it originally. I finally watched it on Starz last night with a temp subscription. Shocked that this movie came out almost 4 years ago now - thought it was more recent.

I'm not going to say much, but this movie instantly hit my top 10, if not top 5, movies of all time. Best QT movie ever, or at least on par with PF - both PF and this movie are masterpieces imo. Best and most unique performance by Brad Pitt, who I always like, but he usually seems to play the same role. Previously, I considered DeCaprio's performance in Django Unchained his best, but this is right on par if not better.

This is a movie about a time, a place, and an era - or rather transition of eras. In a way, it's also about the profession of acting. So many nuances throughout the film that it is certainly worth multiple views.

So many great scenes, but I especially want to highlight a scene, or rather series of scenes, involving DeCaprio and a little girl actress in a film he is shooting. The interchange between these two is just beyond genius. The little girl really shines here as well. So hilarious but moving too.

Having seen this, I'd definitely say it should have won Best Picture in 2020, and I'd say likely the best picture in the last 10 to 15 years.
