A Royal Runaway Romance (2022 TV Movie)
5/10
Kind of Boring

Warning: Spoilers
I liked both the lead actors. They did a good job with what they had to work with. Unfortunately, the script was just kind of boring. This is supposed to be a classic road trip romance movie, but some key elements of the road trip romance were missing. The guy and girl are supposed to be opposites who entertain us with their on-screen sparring and banter. These two just got along, almost from the get go. No banter. The girl should be a spoiled brat with a character arc that eventually leads her to being nicer. This girl was almost disgustingly perfect from the first. No character arc. The road trip should involve hijinks, fiascos and danger. Nothing much out of the ordinary happens on this road trip. It's just boring. Not that there weren't a ton of squandered opportunities for disaster, comedy or something interesting. For example, when they go camping, they could have run into a bear, pitched their tent on an anthill, or done something to take the princess out of her comfort zone. Instead, all they do is roast marshmallows and eat s'mores! Even the big reunion of the guy with his dad, the dad who supposedly disowned him, was a letdown. They said "I'm sorry" a couple of times, and everything was cool. No dramatic tension whatsoever. I won't even go into the gaping plot holes, the unbelievable relationship with the guy in Chicago, the trying to pass off wooded, mountainous Canadian scenery as Nebraska, etc. You can suspend a lot of disbelief if you have an interesting plot, but sadly, this plot just wasn't that interesting.
