Griechenland (2023)

Nice scenery but vapid story
2 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film is a frothy comedy, with superficial humor and a boring story.

The really good camera work and the surprisingly good sound for an Austrian film made a positive impression. The beautiful scenery invites you to a vacation in Greece. Wanderlust is therefore quite possible.

Unfortunately, the screenplay in particular is very lame. The whole story is so banal and sometimes shameful, especially when aging hippies seek victims for the gang bang. Except for one scene, the whole story is predictable, so that the viewer gets bored pretty quickly. The leading actor Thomas Stipsitz can't convince at all in terms of acting and the participating greats of the Austrian film can't improve the film either due to the lame story. Only Mona Seefried, who plays a helicopter mother of a 40-year-old mama's boy, stands out positively as an actress. Claudia Kottal can also convince in principle, but she consistently speaks a peculiar Greek dialect. Ever since House of Gucci, it should have been a well-known fact that wrong dialects do not appeal to the public.

At the end of the film, all the actors sang an Austrian music classic (Irgendwann bleib I donn durt) and because of the embarrassment lay it to rest.
