Great Exultations...
28 December 2022
You meet a convict near a church who fills with dread, who threatens brutal hurt, if he's not fed, so you conjure up some wittles, though your sister will belittle, but at least your still around to tie the thread - and what an outstanding thread the director and the writer spin for us, as Pip shares his journey, from innocent child, to grown up man that's reconciled, encountering some of Dicken's most colourful and enigmatic characters on the way. A story that is perpetually retold through various directors eyes, but none come close to the magic left to us by David Lean, with every one of the performers providing as good a rendition as any before, and quite probably, ever after.
