Hearing that ex-jocks are to be featured in a Superbowl commercial for a new all-sport athletic shoe, Al auditions for a part. To his family's surprise, Al gets the gig, his co-stars being pro football player Ed 'Too-tall' Jones, baseball player Steve Carlton and boxer Sugar Ray Leonard. Unfortunately for Al, he is there to take a series of hard-hitting blows to show how the shoes will outlast the wearer.
I would probably have enjoyed this episode more if a) I actually gave a damn about sports, and b) if I knew who Too-tall and Steve Carlton were (I've actually heard of Sugar Ray). Being British and less interested in American sport than I am in needlepoint or the mating habits of fresh-water shrimp, most of this one left me stony-faced. Oh well, at least Christina Applegate looked good, and we got some big hooters courtesy of Elizabeth Giordano as sexy receptionist Miss LeGroin...
