Strange World (2022)
6/10
The animation is terrific; the plot is not

Warning: Spoilers
Searcher Clade and his father Jaeger Clade have been looking for a way over the mountains of Albonia for years. Searcher discovers a plant that generates electricity and suggests that they don't need to leave the valley. Jaeger leaves in a huff and isn't seen for twenty-five years until a crisis forces Searcher, his wife and son and others to go underground to discover the "Strange World" of the title as well as Searcher's longlost father Jaeger.

Another reviewer said that the "last fifteen minutes redeems this movie to a certain extent." I agree. Something happens then and in the last moments of the movie that make you say "Hey, now that's clever!" However, the rather tired plotline of a son and father (and the son's son) reconnecting and understanding each other (as worthy as that theme is) pulls the film down in my opinion. Worst of all, it's not very funny. The only time I laughed is when Splat (the blobby creature they encounter) and the one-legged dog were on screen (the funniest scene in the movie involves these two carrying out a rescue). It's the stunning animation and final twist that makes the film worth watching. The plot and main characters do not.
