The Third Film in the Lone Wolf and Cub Series
12 November 2022
The film essentially continues the journey of the former samurai named "Ogami Itto" (Tomisaburo Wakayama) as he makes his way through the Japanese countryside with his young son "Daigoro Ogami" (Akihiro Tomikawa) being pushed by him in a wooden baby cart. Along the way he meets another former samurai named "Kanbei Magomura" (Go Kato) who, because of a recent action on his part, feels compelled to challenge Ogami Itto to a duel. But Ogami Itto wisely refuses the challenge and continues on his way. He then befriends a young woman recently sold into prostitution by the name of "Omatsu" (Sayoko Kato) who has just killed a man who tried to rape her. Angry that a prostitute would dare act in such a manner, several men of the village decide to take Omatsu by force but are stopped by their female boss "Torizo Koshio" (Yuko Hama) who prefers to negotiate with Ogami Itto first--and it's only then that they learn just how far he is willing to go on Omatsu's behalf. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this film was almost as good as its two predecessors due in large part to a good plot and several exciting action scenes. Admittedly, there was one particular scene that was extremely over-the-top, but even so I enjoyed this film and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.
