Fanaa (2006)

Sentimental but in a good way

Starts as a pretty lightweight bad comedy then evolves into to sickly lovely-dovey stuff however this is actually is necessary in getting to know the characters and know how they feel for when the film really gets going about half way through. It's a brilliant piece of story-telling, really moving and stunningly beautiful to look at.

Kajol is a huge star in India and I can see why; even though us English can't understand Hindi (there are subtitles of course), as the film unfolds you feel as though you really know her. You don't just watch this film, you are drawn into it, what matters to Kajol's character becomes vitality important to you. It's amazing story telling.
