The Audrey Hepburn Story (2000 TV Movie)
8/10
Charming, an iconic replication
17 July 2022
It's very surprising that there's only been one biopic about Audrey Hepburn, when she was such an icon in the acting, fashion, and philanthropic worlds. Documentaries have been produced, but only one actress had the privilege of portraying Audrey on film: Jennifer Love Hewitt. Well, to be fair, Emmy Rossum played the teenage version of Audrey early in the film. Jennifer was always compared to Audrey early in her career, and it's enormous fun to see her recreating certain famous scenes and clad in replicated gorgeous costumes. There's one part of her anatomy that doesn't resemble Audrey, but it really can't be helped. Just focus on her English accent, her hopeful eyes, and her charming aura. Until Keira Knightley plays Audrey, Jennifer's as good as it's going to get.

If you're looking to dig deep and gain insight into Audrey's soul, or learn secrets about her life, just watch a documentary or read a biography. This tv biopic is very light, intent on giving audiences a warm feeling rather than peeling back the curtain and exposing the real Audrey. Most of her fans will be completely satisfied, but there will be a few out there that wished the screenplay would have probed deeper. To those who want to see scenes from Breakfast at Tiffany's, learn a little about her childhood during the war, remember her quick rise to fame in Gigi and Roman Holiday, and feel a little sad that she didn't end up with William Holden, this movie is wonderful. I've seen it three or four times, and it always makes me smile. After all, that's the essence of Audrey Hepburn, isn't it? She may have kept sadness and insecurity inside and away from the public, but the end result is that she made audiences feel good.
