Platinum End (2021–2022)
2/10
Frustratingly flat :l

It was advertised like Mirai Nikki, but tried to act like that and a weird blend of Sonny Boy or the Tatami Galaxy. I adore existential and philosophical media, but the execution on this was really poor.

The entire metropoliman part felt like a mismatched skin graft onto what was trying to be deep and profound, but ended up being far too rushed to feel fitting.

The animation style and character designs were solid - enough for me to get hooked in at the beginning, and if you don't mind watching 24 episodes of pointlessness for pretty pictures, then I give my firm recommendation to give it a go.

If the latter half of the show slid to the start, and elaboration on the final two episodes happened, I'm sure it would have been great! But that isn't how it was, and therefore it was, indeed, not great :/

The characters felt like cardboard, but I think that was more due to pacing issues rather than anything else. This anime is mostly just exasperating, because if the creators had shifted it slightly to the left, it could have been amazing.

I literally made this account to do this review, please if you want an actual philosophical and meaningful anime, take a look at the Tatami Galaxy or Sonny Boy, and if you want action then stick to the popular stuff.
