2x1: Charlie Gets Crippled
20 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first of many many classics. This really feels like the first sunny episode where they were figuring out their show. The episodes that are 10/10 are a lot different then the ones in the later seasons around season 6 or 7 where it started to drift from the controversial episodes and went more to the characters and I enjoy them both for their different ways.

This episode is amazing almost every thing from start to finish is gold. From the opening scene of Dennis hitting Charlie with a car, because of Frank coming back to see Dennis and Dee and at this time he thinks they are his kids. The writing in this episode is a huge jump up from any episode in season 1. This episode is the first one they really shows how messed up the gang is by using handicap advantages for the gangs profit. By using Charlie in a wheel chair to get sympathy points from strippers. The whole scene at the stripper with Mac, Frank, and Charlie is fantastic even though Mac is somewhat out of character here. I love that Frank is in the show, even though this isn't my favorite version of him I'm just glad Danny Devito is finally in the show. Everything with frank trying to get into Dennis and Dee's lives is great. Charlie dressing up as a war veteran to get get even more points is even better and the costumes are some of the best part of the show. We also get the iconic wheel chair race scene in the mall is fantastic. Also I think this is the episode when they really show they are gonna be king of awkward conversations. When Dennis and Mac run into the actual guy in the wheel chair is an amazing scene. Also the ending is fanatic with the guy in the wheelchair talking to Dee and the reveal of Dee in crutches never fails to make me laugh. We also get the scene of Charlie in the hospital is also amazing. The very end of the episode is also great karma for the gang which I feel like they do run away from that later in its run. When Dennis falls asleep at the wheel with Mac in the back and they crash and the jump to them in the hospital now actually crippled is great ending, and man that reveal after "at least no one important got hurt" of the guy who caught on to the gang faking being crippled. Man what an amazing episode, this is the episode that really sold me on the show and made me really love the show. Easily a 10/10 prolly closer to more of a 9.4 or 9.5 but I still have to give it the 10 just for really selling me on the show.
