Frasier: Daphne Hates Sherry (1997)

Will they finally get together?
12 March 2022
A heat wave hits Seattle and, in dramatic terms, that means a bundle of problems for the characters. The main one is Daphne feeling undermined and belittled by Sherry, Martin's girlfriend. After an argument with Sherry, Daphne storms out of the apartment and seeks refuge at Niles' place. She asks to stay the night and Niles, in a mix of happiness and shock, faints. Niles and Daphne then proceed to have a conversation about their loneliness and lack of recent sexual relationships. This all occurring while Niles' apartment is sweltering and both are drenched in sweat.

It seems like it'd be natural for this to be the episode where Niles and Daphne get together. But, of course, they don't, which makes sense if you think about it. The chemistry between actors David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves is so unbelievably good and it's thanks to episodes like this that audiences were willing to wait out the seasons until their characters finally became a couple. It's hard to find a TV couple with this much chemistry so it's nice to see their individual progression as people before their relationship blossoms.
