Review of Points

Band of Brothers: Points (2001)

A fitting end

Easy Company enters the final stages of the war.

'Points' is a great conclusion to the dramatised account of Easy Company's European campaign. It contains some great philosophical narration from Major Winters and insightful observations about the experiences after the German surrender and the points system used for being discharged from duty.

There are some slight issues with historical accuracy in relation to Major Winters acceptance of the surrendering German officer's sidearm and the role of David Webster in one scene involving a suspected concentration camp commander. Many historical records state the American Third Division was the first into Berchtesgaden. However, the more research you do into this (and numerous other events) the more you find certain claims are disputed.

For me the strength of the episode is the reflective tone it has about what this generation of soldier (on both sides of the conflict) went through together and the bonds formed.

The best parts, as in every episode of Band of Brothers, are the excerpts from the interviews with the actual Easy Company veterans of WWII. This one is unique as it reveals the identities of the interviewees. You would have to be very cold hearted not to be moved to tears by the final line spoken by the real Major Winters.

For me it's a 9.5/10 but I round upwards.
