Review of Insecure

Insecure (2016–2021)
From London to LA: Love it!
23 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a bit older than the show's demographic at 50 - it feels like this aimed at 25-35 - and I think that explains all the sex in the show. Some of the sex scenes are hilarious ("I feel like there's too much momentum" :D :D), at other times they relate to what happens to the relationship (i.e. Spoiler: ejaculation->eye incident) and if it feels like there's too much of it I'm thinking it's because I'm older? But I still vaguely remember what it was like when I was younger, when it was really important, when it's a way of connecting but also of disconnecting. So, most of the time I think the amount of sex is appropriate for the show, because it's such a big part of their lives at that age.

Anyway, sex aside, there's so much more to it. Some of the things that happen could be happening in London or in any metropolitan city - and a lot of it feels familiar: life in the big city, opportunities, gentrification, prejudice, camaraderie, work stress, being broke, loneliness, anxiety, what to do next in life, how to do it... It combines comedy in drama in a perfect ratio.

I love Issa and Molly and their world - I'd love to go out partying with them, I love their honesty with one another, it feels like a real friendship, built over many years. I surprised at how much I related to Issa's way of thinking, her awkwardness but also her clarity & wisdom and confusion. Great job overall!!!! (I just started Season 4 by the way).
