Sadly, It Rings True

Warning: Spoilers
As a child in the 1980s, I saw many of the things depicted in this film. While spending time with my relatives in the inner city, I observed many of the things shown. Watching hard working, decent people have their families destroyed by drugs was horrible. The scene where Maya cries to her father to let her drug addicted mother into the house in the middle of the night rang true. I remember asking a relative why the neighbor was outside at night yelling up to her family. I was told that she was a drug addict and couldn't be trusted in the house. Seeing young guys selling the drugs that were killing the people in the community was hard (it was confusing and I am thankful that my family was honest with me). I didn't understand it all then, but this movie reminded me of those times. So sad. This movie is gritty, griping, and emotionally draining. Finding out that it is semi-autobiographic is heavier still. Great effort! Brilliant acting. IYKYK.
