Once is enough, and possibly too much.

Warning: Spoilers
There are some true stories that are far too disturbing to see made into a movie no matter how intriguing plot or the headlines that it brought. The same goes for novels, and I feel the same way about "Lovely Bones" as I do for this film. This film, set at a girl's school in New Zealand, deals with two young ladies who become such good friends that they ignore the world around them and create a fantasy world that soon becomes a disturbing reality. One of the mothers goes too far and her determination to help her daughter, and this results in a horrific act of violence that had me shaking when I first saw it.

Melanie Lynsky and a young Kate Winslet are chilling, and the details surrounding the growth of their friendship implies something more than a possible lesbian relationship growing between them. It's obvious that they are each obsessed with each other and in their sick fantasy world, they cannot live without each other yet they can do without everybody else. This is a type of film that can create nightmares because of the vulnerabilities of these very different young ladies who soon are like one. I can just imagine this film if it had been set in the era of social media. It's well worth seeing if you can stomach the disturbing elements, but it's probably not one that you'll recommend or go back and watch it again years later.
