Blue Period (2021)
9/10
A calm but honest story of self discovery and the relationships that lead you there

Warning: Spoilers
Yaguchi is a typical teenage boy, sure of himself, and his friendships, enjoying life, but not really knowing what he will do in his future. When he finds art and really finds passion for something in his life for the first time the real story starts. It is a story of self discovery through art. How to be authentic and yourself even when there are so many roads leading you astray. I love the nuance, that the teachers give advice, but when he is going too far in it, they tell him usually, that he went too far.

The characters are fascinating and realistic in the sense that an anime can be realistic. Internal struggles of a young artist shown through the main character and others is truly fascinating. It shows success and failure, and I wish I knew more about the creators, because some of the stories told seem very personal.

I hope it keeps the tone of success, but also showing the dark side, and failure along the way, it gives such a wholesome feeling, without being too cheesy, that it keeps me waiting for the next episode.
